I've had both hips replaced. The best hip replacement is the one done by an experienced surgeon in a hospital that hosts many hip replacement surgeries and has a low incidence of surgical infections, using a device that has been around long enough to have a good track record when used on people like you. Other differences may involve the surgical approach used and size of incision. All approaches and incision sizes work fine when used on the right patient. Personally I had quite long incisions and posterolateral approach because that was what my surgeon was best at. I don't really know if his choice of device was influenced by a hospital contract or cost. I suppose it was. Whatever the reason, my hips have worked just fine for 8 years and I expect many more years on them.
