Communities like the Amish?

I was wondering if there were communities like the Amish. "Old world" and self sustaining type communities. I like the Amish way of life, but I'm not a Christian and I think it would an issue if I ever tried to visit them or see if joining them is even possible(not to sound rude, but to the devout it is a big issue).

To sum up, are there any simple living, basic communities that aren't Amish.

Update:

I'm a Pagan if that helps.

There are several sects like the Amish, but they're all religious. Try a search for Twin Oaks Farm, Luisa, VA.

Sounds like you'd be happier living in a smaller rural community where you can minimize your ecological foot print and almost get back to the land as much as possible. Try and decide what type of experience you're looking for.

For now you might want to try the Vispassna 10 day silent meditation retreat. I'm suggesting this for peace of mind and clarity. It's so much easier and more rewarding going through life with your eyes on what you want as opposed to focusing what you're trying to get away from!

You may also want to consider trying communal/spirtual retreat type environment. I've done a cursory search for communal retreats and have included some of the links below. By all means do your own research and due process

And then there are communal farm opportunities

there are still some communes out there, i think.

btw to be amish a person would really need to know pennsylvania dutch, a type of germanic language, just an aside.

why not start where u are, try to live more simply, shop at thrift shops, use towels instead of paper towels, ride a bike if u can or take the bus, plant a tree or donate time, volunteer, even u can volunteer to rock babies at the local hospital usually.

there is im sure u know the no impact man who has alot of wisdom to share about simple living

    good luck

Try the Shakers and the Mennonites.
