Why are some people rude and then defend themselves by saying they are just honest?

Update:

there's a difference between honesty with tact and tactless rudeness.

btw don't "sweety" me. you're not above me in any way, shape or form.

Update 2:

since when did I say this happens to me? I'm tired of other people treat others like shyt. that's why I ask the question. Don't give me attitude when you don't know me. I'm usually nice and polite but don't expect to be a b*tch and expect me to except it. You deserve a taste of your own medicine. >:)

Majority of time, when people do this, it's for unsolicited critism or advice that was unasked for, at least in my expirence.

They think that by saying this, they're justified in whatever rude comments they have to say. These same people usually get pissy if you turn around and give them a bit of your own 'honesty'..

There is a fine line between tactfulness and insincerity. Your friends will try to be tactful, yet honest. Other people will tell you what you want to hear when they are face to face. People tend to be more direct in the anonymous online world and will give it to you straight without consideration for your feelings. Rude, yes. Honest, yes.

It is not a defense but an explanation. I often say what others think rude, but I have the sense to see past social etiquette and answer with honesty.

i agree with you completely. people think that being brutally honest is admirable, and it isn't. mainly because it is unnecessary unless someone is "asking for it" or if it is really needed.

i think the reasons why people are brutally honest- jealousy, hatred, immaturity- make these people admirable in the least sense.

constructive criticism is so because it gets the point across without making things messy.

Being honest or not, there are ways to talk to people without being condescending, insulting or rude. They just try to justify their rudeness... not cool

That is a cop out. One can be honest but in a kind and thoughtful way.
