FYI - Honolulu is a city on the island of Oahu.
Visit the Arizona Memorial. If you get there late in the morning or afternoon then you'll have a couple hour wait. While waiting visit the USS Missouri and/or USS Bowfin.
Hike Diamond Head crater. If you really want a workout then hike Koko Head crater. Hike to the lighthouse at Makapu'u Point.
Spend a day in Waikiki. It's very busy and crowded but fun as well. The best restaurants are there. There's street performers at night, surfing during the day, and plenty of shopping.
Go snorkeling at Shark's Cove on the north shore. Visit Waimea Bay on the north shore. Visit Haleiwa and eat at Giovanni's Shrimp Shack - it's located just past the Killer Tacos restaurant and across the street from McDonalds.
Visit Lani Kai beach in Lani Kai, and Kailua beach in Kailua. Rent a kayak in Kailua and ride it to the Mokulua "Mokes" Islands. Eat shave(d) ice at the Island Snow shop next to the kayak rental place.
Check out the Pali Lookout on the Pali Highway.
Hike to Manoa Falls.
Go horseback riding at Kualoa Ranch.
Drive around the entire island.
Eat pineapple ice cream at the Dole Plantation.
There is plenty to do but just remember this - don't drive west past Ko'olina. The only worth seeing past Ko'olina is the Kaena State Park, but the locals in the area REALLY don't like tourists. It's the most crime ridden, trashy, run-down area in the entire state of Hawaii. There are literally thousands of homeless people living there and the locals will actually go out of their way to harass and taunt you because they think it's fun. Trust me, when you're on H-1 going westbound take the Ko'olina exit and either stay there or turn around.

Wow! I hope you enjoy your trip. For fun things to do, you can spend a few hours or even a whole afternoon on Waikiki Beach. You can get tickets to one of the Luau shows such as Paradise Cove or Germaine's Luau.
I recommend Paradise Cove Luau; we've been to that a couple of times and it's a fun day.
You can also make arrangements to go to the Polynesian Cultural Center on the north side of Oahu. This is a great, day long exhibit in which you can see young people from many different Polynesian Islands performing in shows and giving tours. There's even a night time show that is really fun to see and includes one of the best fire dancers I've ever seen.
You can also go to the Pearl Harbor tour and Arizona Memorial, but you need to go first thing in the morning as tickets sell out very quickly and you may have a long wait at the tour. You can also see an actual WWII submarine called the Bowfish (I think that's the name).
There's plenty to do on Waikiki including restaurants, shopping and shows at night. Try going to the International Marketplace; that's a great way to spend a few hours and buy souvenirs, etc. They have shops for jewelry, clothes, toys, and just about anything you could imagine.
You can go snorkeling, diving, touring and I could go on and on, but you have the basics.
I've been to Hawaii a number of times and enjoyed doing all of that (except the snorkeling).
Expect to spend a little more for food and gas over there. As an example, we bought a half gallon of Orange Juice that cost about $4.00 +. Here in L.A. its about $3.00.
Best bet is to go to a place like AAA (if you are a member) and get some brochures, etc.
You can even go online and look at activities.

For Oahu:
The other guy had a good list, but here is some more,
Sunset Cruise
Malasada at Leonard's
Helicopter ride if you can afford it.
Surfing lessons at Waikiki
Hike Diamondhead (view is worth it)
walk on LaniKai beach (best beach) little windy, no services, but still worth it.
Snorkle
I liked a meal that they have at the fast food joint called Kalua pork plate lunch. Zippy's I think it is.
And spend some time getting to know the other tourists, everyone has a story.

You have great answers here but I didn't see The Aloha Stadium Flea Market, It's the best shopping of ALL.
The first person who wrote where not to go, it's called Waianae and locals everyone, not just there just don't like white people. I'd stay far away from locals other than ones who work in the service industry cause I was born and raised there. Half White and life was hell for me cause I was the only white person where I was from in Pearl City. Considering my family is Asian, my life was hell for having light skin.

e book a excursion with living house of the courageous excursions. Its a small operation so which you do no longer ought to anticipate 30-forty people to come again on the bus to depart and you gets back on your hotel quicker. The excursion handbook grow to be large and hilarious. on the tip of the excursion, he will deliver you to their present save/museum variety place. It grow to be distinctly cool. It grow to be the spotlight of my honeymoon some weeks in the past. have exciting whilst in Hawaii.
