Is bachelors of liberal arts a kiss of death?
So I got a bachelors in liberal arts. At the time it was because I couldn't figure out what I wanted to do and I just wanted to be done with college for the time being and appease my folks (who believed, incorrectly I'd say, that any degree is better than no degree). Good news is I own my own home and car, bad news is I can't get employed anywhere (duh, I got a lib degree, who would employee me?)
I'm now in my mid-20s and I have a better idea of where I'd like to go, I'm thinking about IT. Thought I'd go into the business information systems program. I don't know if I should go back to undergraduate and get the degree there, or if I should make my BA degree worth something and just use it to get into a masters in business information systems.
The colleges I've looked at in my area do accept applicants with a bachelors in liberal arts into their masters program, but I can't help but wonder if I would look down upon by employers for not having a bachelors in that field before the masters and instead just trying to shortcut with a liberal arts degree.

Hmm well i have a degree in LA and i got a relevant job straight out of college (graduated last year this time). My ex, who is an engineering major, graduated at the same time and has yet to find employment other than bar-tending. Difference is that i was very involved in school, got internships, studied abroad, worked all four years, and just in general, excelled. He sat on his *** doing nothing assuming someone would just offer him a awesome job out of undergrad paying 60K or more a year, but obviously he was wrong. He even graduated from the best engineering program in the state.
A degree is what you make of it. If you just coast through college then you won't get anywhere no matter what your degree was in...

Well, my Father and I were having a conversation about this earlier. Liberal Arts Degree would seem like a loose, but in very many ways a liberal arts degree can be a win! First of all, and my Father has had experience with this, technology majors usually receive training in specific programs like Microsoft or Apple. In a few years, these programs may become outdated, and their training was useless. For example, my Father specialized in computer animation in the mid 1990s, which does not mean much today. Now he has a Masters in Leadership, which will help him recieve management jobs instead. Second, it is much easier to actually get into graduate school with a Liberal Arts Degree because it is flexible enough to let you get into any program you have previously studied. and it will show that you have an intellectual capability to do much more than someone with a single specialty major. And third, my sociology teacher is teaching at MCI (a good tech institute in Hampton VA), and yes, she is teaching sociology. Sociology may not seem applicable to technology, but if you apply to somewhere like the later, and they see you have done something like sociology, you may get a higher standing and less time to complete your masters.
Yes, I think you should still try to go for your Masters in Business Information Systems, and good luck with it ;)

Yeah. The bachelors of LA really is a kiss of death. They're worthless in trying to get employed anywhere. If you want to get a very good job, you need to go back and take a major based bachelor's degree. Klg.
