Lean on Title of Car I just bought?

I just bought a car that was missing a title [im an idiot i know!]and have done some work to get it up to par, I called the dmv to find out what i would have to do to get the title and switch the registration. When i gave her the vin # she said there was going to be some problems caused from the previous owner that she wasn't allowed to discuss. Assuming it has a lean on it, I asked what would hav to happen if that was the case in order for me to keep the car. She said I had to get a sharedy bond paying 1 and a half times the amount of its worth which would cost me 7000 bucks i don't have, then if i have that bond for three years with no contact from the lean holder the title will be mine for good.

I also heard that if i file for an abandoned title and keep it for thirty days and the lean holder doesn't contact me the title will be mine... is this correct?

what are my other options.. i know i shouldnt have bought it without a title im an idiot it was just a good deal, now i know why!

Get legal aid from your city/county.

http://www.ptla.org/links/services.htm You should report the sale to the state's attorney. Selling a vehicle that way is fraud. You might also be asked to contact the lien holder. The casual sale you made should be voided and you get your money back.

Don't try to hide the transfer from the lien holder. That's stealing. They were due the money at the time of sale. Selling something that is not yours is theft by conversion.
