Becoming a casting director?
I want to become a casting director when I get older.
What classes should i take in high school? My freshman year just got over so i've got three years left.
What kind of college should I go to? And what should I major in?
- Thanks :)

There is no set "path", and no specific courses. Most cd's learn "on the fly", and a lot of them have an acting/theatre background of some sort.
You can volunteer to help out with a casting session, and next thing you know, you're promoted to assistant & then *boom!* you're casting your own projects.
Or you can be an assistant for a long while, then an associate, and then after bouncing around to different cd offices, you're a cd.
You REALLY need to GOOGLE individual cd's and READ THEIR STORIES. Or buy a book. There is a book written by a former writer at BackStageWest = the entire book is interviews with cd's while she was working at BSW.

I'm actually pursuing a career in casting as well :)
I recommend you start watching every play at your high school. Taking any acting/drama classes your school may have to offer. Casting directors need to know some acting too because they have to know what to look for in actors.
While there is no specific route for casting directors, I would major in theater, film, or business when you go to college. While casting directors need to have the acting skills and an eye for talent, they also have to have business skills as well in order to negotiate and communicate with producers and agents.
Right now I'm majoring in film and plan to do a minor in business. If you plan to go this route, start watching plays, noting important actors, and volunteer in film projects. Get yourself known as the casting guy. When you have some film experience under your belt, look into internships. You have to have an internship in order to break into the business. Let the casting director at the internship know you also want to be a casting director and start to work your way up. It takes hard work to reach the top, but I think it's well worth it.
Good luck.
