You got a bad install so go uninstall yahoo messenger then go here >> http://www.oldapps.com/yahoo_messenger.php and get the version you want and download it to your desktop first and then run the installer from there.
If this is the first time for you to use messenger then you will also need to get the latest Adobe Flash Player installed. If you don't have the flash player installed messenger
will not open and crash before you are able to sign in.
Use Internet Explorer to install the player. You can
