The iPhone itself won't be that bad. For example, for Rogers (Canada), the phone itself costs $200. That's the 16GB, and is the cheapest one there. Then you have to look at plans. The data plans on Rogers range from $25-$60/month, and I don't know if that includes talk and text. On Bell, the closest thing to unlimited they have is the combo 100 for iPhone, which should be enough talk/text/surf to last anyone. BUT, that plan costs $100/month.
Is an iPhone worth it? In my opinion, no. If you're willing to put up $1200/year for a plan (with a contract, I might add) plus another $200 for the phone, go right ahead. But really? Is it worth it? That's up to you do decide.
Do a little research to find out which phone carriers offer iPhones. I live in Canada, so my examples were using Canadian companies, but I'm sure the price is around the same in the US.
My opinion? Keep your old cellphone, and get an iPod Touch. No monthly payments, and you have WiFi, which is free at places like Starbucks. So you get Internet, and you still have your current phone plan. Although, get a 16GB touch. I got an 8GB thinking it would be plenty of room, but the apps add up fast, and your music collection will likely grow, so 16GB gives you more room. I'm struggling to choose which songs I can take off my iPod! :(
P.S You had a phone at 11??? You're lucky, my first phone was when I was 13, and even then I was limited to 100 texts a month!!!

I dont think you can get unlimited everything, but usually a good plan with a sufficient amount of minutes and unlimited text will be about 70+ dollars a month. Unless your on a family plan, I pay about 40.

it will cost at least ninety dollars a month for unlimited, i wouldn't get an iphone just cuz it's SO expensive.
