Rather than watch Flavor Flav host RAW, I would much rather:

- listen to old Public Enemy albums

- watch some of the WWF wrestling from the mid 90s with the horrible gimmicks, like Thurman "Sparky" Plug and Isaac Yankem, the Evil Dentist.

WQ: It can, but a lot of times, if the wrestler has the talent, they can overcome this. For example, Stonecold Steve Austin and his Ringmaster gimmick, Kane and his Isaac Yankem Evil Dentist gimmick, Triple H and his blueblood gimmick...there have been many that get a bad gimmick but still are able to come out as top wrestlers.

A lot of times, especially when it comes to WWE, a wrestler gets a bad gimmick, but goes elsewhere to another wrestling company and has success. For example Aldo Montoya, the Portuguese Man O War in the WWF in the mid 90s...a bad gimmick with a horrible looking mask resembling a jock strap. He goes to ECW and becomes Justin Credible, and has a good run in ECW.

So though it can ruin a career, a lot of times it doesn't. There are some like Santino, that is from what I've heard a pretty good wrestler, who's now stuck with his gimmick...but at least is being somewhat successful by being comedy relief on WWE...though he won't get far as far as titles and main eventing is concerned. Some guys get stuck with a gimmick, and it literally gets stuck on them.

But most of the time, if the wrestler didn't have much talent, or charisma or any of the other things that help get a wrestler over in WWE, he won't get anywhere after a bad gimmick, because he wasn't getting anywhere anyway. But if you have the talent and the charisma..etc...the talent will rise to the top, bad gimmick at the start of their career or not.

A bad gimmick doesn't ruin a wrestler's career, it's usually that they lack something that helps get them over that ruins a wrestler's career. If you're relying mostly on talent anyway, and don't have much personality...WWE most of the time isn't the place for that wrestler anyway, there are other companies like ROH for that. Even TNA likes having a number of wrestlers with talent.

Some thing I'd rather do besides watching Flava Flav on Raw? Well, I'd rather...

and WQ: Yes, an unappealing gimmick can destroy a wrestler's career before it even starts. Some examples? Guys like Slam Master J, Kungfunaki, festus, Zack Ryder, Jimmy Wang Yang, and so many more. If the people can't get behind someone, they they won't get pushed. For example, I can't care for Jesse, or Kung funaki, because usually crappy gimmick wrestlers are so awful that their personalities are so boring and people can't connect to them. In fact, one of the most amazing things is that the Undertaker survived with his gimmick. Think about it. His gimmick was awful, and somehow, fans began to love him, and now he's the most sucessful guy in the biz. Another thing is that festus, was never meant to be sucessful, but now with his major character change, he has a better chance.

I'd rather try to make sense of the random heel turns on Impact.

WQ- Yes. Do you see Nick "Eugene" Dinsmore anywhere? Sure he was sort of over for a bit, but that wasn't a gimmick that was going anywhere and now he's a minor player in the indies.

WQ: Yes. Terry Taylor was a fantastic wrestler in the UWF and NWA. When he finally got his shot in the WWF, Vince, in an attempt to embarass a wrestler from a rival promotion, gave him the Red Rooster gimmick, where his gimmick was a guy who thought he was a rooster. It was awful and killed his career, and despite him dropping the gimmick and having other stints in WCW and again the WWF in 1992, he was never able to shake the Rooster image no matter what he did
