Why i have to reboot my macbook everytime i start it.?

This is mac OS X 10.6.3. the problem start when I saw a gray screen with a small circle. This is low battery problem. So i use power button to shut the mac. then i click power button for few seconds and hold the SHIFT key with it. This reboot my system and i m running my mac this way. But whenever i shut down the mac, i have to reboot it. I dont know the solution. Please help

    The gray screen with the circle means the computer is having difficulty finding the system software. It has nothing to do with the battery. Just insert the MacOS X DVD that came with it, restart holding down the "c" key and have the disk utility program repair the hard drive & the permissions.

    Remove the main power and the battery pack under the laptop and hold down the power-on button for 5 minutes, reconnect everything and try again.
