How can I count the number of words in a text document?
It's an regular text document typed in MS Word or Notepad.
How can I count the number of words in the text without having to count them manually?
One way comes to mind even as I type this:
1. Copy the text to MS Word
2. Replace all the white spaces " " with a dummy character (say '+')
3, A message appears that n replacements were made. That's (n+1) the number of words.
Can you think of something simpler?

Copy the text into MS Word. If you're using Word 2007, it will automagically show the word count in the bottom left-hand corner of the window. If you're using Word 2003 (or earlier, I believe), you can get the word count by going to "Tools->Word Count..."
Hope that helps!!

It's even simpler than that. Copy the text to an MS Word document, then:
In versions of Word prior to Word 2007:
1.Click the Tools->Word Count menu item.
In Word 2007:
1.The current word count should be displayed in the lower left corner of the window, on the Status bar.
2.If it isn’t, right-click in the Status bar and put a check mark next to Word Count.
Hope that helps.

Click the Tools->Word Count menu item. If you want to put the word count in the document, do this: 1. Position the cursor where you want the word count to go. 2. Click the Insert->Field menu item. 3. Scroll down to and click on NumWords. 4. Click OK. Note that the word count won't update itself. To update it, select it and press the F9 key. Hope that helps.

What version of Word are you using? Word 2007 automatically counts words for you and you can see the value in the bottom left corner of the screen.

It's pretty simple.
1) Select the paragraph and then select "Tools" in the menu bar.
2) After that select "Words Count" which will display the number of words in a new opened window.
