Mets Trade Carlos Beltran to the Red Sox for Clay Buchholz?

I think this is a good deal for both teams. The Red Sox have a lot of pitching and Buchholz seems to struggle in the AL East against teams like the Yanks and Rays (who wouldn't).

I think he would be great in the NL, hell, Bronson Arroyo was the NL starter in the All Star game a few years ago.

I think this trade makes sense for both teams. The Sox need a big bat in the middle of their lineup and the Mets need a solid number three behind Santana and Pelfrey.

If Beltran comes back in June and plays well, is this a potential deal on July 31st?

They wouldn't trade Buchholz for Martinez, but Beltran is a slightly better hitter and Buchholz is very erratic in the AL. His WHIP is 1.60 right now and he rarely pitches seven innings

Makes no sense whatsoever. The Sox have no need for Beltran, and Buchholz is a 25 year old starter with more upside than just about anyone they could offer. Clay was part of the package they offered for Adrian Gonzalez, but as more time goes by, and he gets closer to the end of his current deal, the Padres will take less and less for Gonzalez, so don't expect the Sox to part with Buchholz, even for him. They have control over Buchholz for several more years, and have the resources to sign him long term when he comes up for free agency.

    Terrible deal. Absolutely terrible.

Buchholz represents the future of the Red ox pitching staff. The ONLY way he leaves is through a trade for Adrian Gonzalez or similiar player.

Beltran is often injured, and the Sox have enough OF as it is.

If the Mets were to get Buchholz it would need to be a multi team deal.

    Mets get:

    Clay Buccholz and Colby Rasmus

    Red Sox get:

    Carlos Beltran and Adam Wainwright

    Cardinals get:

Fernando Martinez, Jonathan Niese, two Mets prospects at AA, and JD Drew.

That's the only way it makes sense to me, and even then it is still a **** trade. Not a fan.

I understand where you are going with this... but it won't happen. And I don't want it to happen. Buchholz is good and all... but the Mets still need a hitter. They do have a lot of power hitters but if they have one more I think they would have an absoulte great lineup, which they are close too. I could see maybe trading Fernando Martinez and Daniel Murphy... I think for the Mets that would be a great deal, but they don't seem to want to be giving up Martinez yet... Ike Davis has taken the place of Murphy very quickly, we don't need Murphy anymore. But I don't know if it is a good deal for the Soxs. I'm not a fan of the Sox, so I don't really keep up with all their players, but I think the young players I just mentioned would contribute, but I believe they wouldn't trade Buchholz for them. I don't see any deals going on with the Mets and Red Sox this year... but we'll see!

because of the fact the mets no longer view themselves as contenders, they have desperate to cut back the ineffective weight of Carlos Beltran. he's 34 with some well-being issues, yet he would desire to be an miraculous addition to a set like the Phillies, who want a precise handed bat to guard Ryan Howard. additionally the Mets are projected to lose $70 million this 365 days as a employer, making Beltran's earnings an argument. So rather of paying Beltran the mets will seem to a minimum of get a prospect. yet for my area i think of once you're a mets fan a commerce of Beltran to a contender for an improved prospect must be welcomed.

your joking right? Bucholz is one of the few consistent pitchers Boston has. And Boston wont want a declining CF that is injury prone. Beltran can really help the Mets if he is healthy, but Boston needs consistency, and Beltran won't consistently play the way the Red Sox need them. Besides, Ellsbury and Cameron are solid Outfielders.

I think the Sox intend on using Bucholz and prospects as a trade proposal for Adrian Gonzales of the Padres. Not positive, but that's what I've read and heard on ESPN.

I don't see that happening, there is no sense in making a lopsided trade like that other than to move payroll, which wouldn't be the case here.

Beltran will finish his career as a Met. He provides leadership and raw hitting for the Mets. It might be more of a Beltran for Lester/Beckett, if anything.

Beltran is 2x what Bucholz is worth
