Greek Mythology?- What is this story called and can you provide a link to a website?
Okay, I have to bring in any Myth or Legend into my spanish class because we were learning about some spanish/mexican legends. I recall a Myth form a myth/legend book, but I can't remember what it was called. Here's what I recall:
A man comes down from the Heavens on a rope, and has a snail shell that he dumps out onto the water and sand comes out and like creates a island or something. Then he takes the clay from the sand and molds people, animals, ETC. He then has a jar and he has to provide each animal with a certain characteristic. When he comes to people, he gives them fire or something and the humans create chaos i think. Then the god who did it is punished... So I believe.
So, with that, I would like some-one to provide me(if you could) the name of the story/myth and a link to a website that has the story on it. Thanks,
Kat!

That would be Prometheus, the fire-giver.

There is a lot of info online.
Edit:
It is possible this is another creation myth, but certainly main points belong to the myth of Prometheus. The fashioning of animals and humans from clay, giving man fire and being punished by Zeus.
This part does not quite fit the Prometheus myth but seems to fit the African story:
"A man comes down from the Heavens on a rope, and has a snail shell that he dumps out onto the water and sand comes out and like creates a island or something."
Kat, is it possible you combined two stories?

There are some allusions to the Maya creation myth that begins with Tepeu and Gucumatz. These two sat together and thought, and whatever they thought came into being. They thought earth, and there it was. They thought mountains, and so there were. They thought trees, and sky, and animals. Each came into being. Because none of these creatures could praise them, they formed more advanced beings of clay. Because the clay beings fell apart when wet, they made beings out of wood; however, the wooden beings caused trouble on the earth. The gods sent a great flood to wipe out these beings, so that they could start over.

Search for Prometheus. He was a titan. It's greek. After the war between Titans and Gods Prometheus (whose name means fore-thought) and his brother (whose name means after-thought) made man out of clay. I think that Zeus was threatened by Man and was unhappy with Prometheus, so to give man an edge Prometheus brought fire to him. For this crime Prometheus was chained to a rock when Zeus' eagle would peck at him and eat his liver, slowly all day long. At night the eagle would fly away and since he's a Titan he wouldn't die. the liver would grow back at night and the eagle would return to start it over again.
