    ShortLine (phone 1-607-277-8800 or 1-800-631-8405)

New York City stop: Port Authority Terminal

Ithaca stops: Ithaca Bus Terminal, and Cornell Theater Arts Center (a 10 minute walk to the Statler Hotel, or call for the hotel shuttle)

If you need to go from an area airport to a New York City stop location, you can take a taxi, bus or shuttle. One shuttle option is New York Airport Service.

If you will be getting off at the Ithaca Bus Terminal, about 30 minutes before your bus arrives you can call the Statler Hotel to request a shuttle pick-up at the terminal (hotel phone 1-607-257-2500). Local taxi service is also available (phone 1-607-277-7777 or 1-888-321-1149). Please note that the Ithaca Bus Terminal building is shut at night from 6:45 pm - 4:30 am (1845 - 0430 hrs), therefore if you arrive during that time, you will be let off in the parking lot. You should plan to have the shuttle/taxi there when you arrive.

You take the bus. Both Short Line and Greyhound have many buses a day from the Port Authority bus terminal in NYC. The Short Line buses tend to stop less so they're faster. If you're a student, there are discounts on Short Line (see the first two links below.)

If you're going to Cornell, the Short Line buses stop various places on campus before or after they stop at the Ithaca bus station, which is about as far from campus as it's possible to be and still be in the City of Ithaca. (It used to be the railroad freight station.) If you're going anywhere else, like Ithaca College, the local TCAT bus system has reasonable service during the week, sparse service on weekends. Failing that, have a friend pick you up. Although there are taxis in Ithaca, in my experience they never show up with you ask them to, and you will hang around and wait a long time.

Oh, the Shortline Bus, how I do not miss it.

Your best bet is the Cornell Ride Board. If you can't get a ride free or cheap (usually you pay gas money only, about 1 full tank, but it's up to whoever is offering the ride), you'll be stuck with the short line bus. It's ridiculously expensive (it was over $70 when I used to take it and I graduated in 2003). It's not comfortable, the bathrooms are not clean, the drivers are often rude, but hey, it's the only option, so that's what you get.

You get the bus on the 3rd floor of the Port Authority. You can buy your tickets on-line first or at the ticket window on the second floor, just before the staircase up to the 3rd floor.

The bus stops Downtown, College Town, and North Campus. If you're going anywhere in Cornell except College Town, Lawschool, Willard Straight, or the Campus Store, you'll be better off getting off at North Campus (often the last stop, but not always) and walking down hill. I think it stops at West Campus too, if you're going to West Campus, ask them about that.

If you can get a ride from Syracuse, you're best bet may be a JetBlue plane to the Syracuse Airport. But you'll have to work out all your other transportation free or really cheap. The Airport bus that goes to Syracuse from Ithaca costs more than the Shortline, even though it's just an hour trip

EDIT: The old Ride Board isn't there anymore. Try one of the services that Cornell recommends to replace it:

The trip to New York City from Ithaca NY will take approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes via Interstate 380 and Route 80. Total distance is 227 miles (365 km). If driving, my I suggest taking the bus instead. Traffic in the New York during the holidays is mess. I hope this information was very helpful. Enjoy your trip. Native New Yorker
