My XP system restarted humty number of times due to power interruptions.
It gives the following error :

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\[your user]\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer and delete the 'desktop.htt' file.
If you can't see the file go to 'tools' then 'folder options' and check the box to show hidden system files.
