Why when someone asks a religious question?
that you find offencive in some way, do we sometimes retaliate with personal attacks?
I mean, if there is a topic or perspective, ideologue you disagree
with, then fine, discuss the issues.
I always thought that when you resort to personal insults
that you had already lost the argument.
Ive done it myself, but I just noticed how many personal
attacks there are here. And on the tv and in our newspapers.
How many can answer this question with out getting all personal on me ;0)

Most people are asking offensive questions to be offensive. They don't expect any sort of meaningful discussion of the subject and I'm sure half of them don't even read the answers once they've had their little dig.
I feel fully justified in retaliating in a similar manner.

Personal attacks are called the ad hominem (against the person) logical fallacy.
You are right when you start to attack the person you have lost the argument. But most people get caught up in the attack and forget the topic and often score points in debates with ad hominems even though they should disqualified

I do think that if you believe that everybody is going to be good and sweet and nice, you might be rather naive. You have to understand that the word 'internet' means 'international network' - which represents that it being used globally. This means that people of all walks of life - all individuals - have their own way to respond and react to something. They are allowed to do that and complaining about it is not going to change the world. Either get used to it or don't ask anymore questions for fear of being offended.

i guess people just feel protective or upset about that matter so they seem to find the need to disagree with whatever happened to them or stick up for people who have been in that position.
I think it's just part of being human and everybody does it, i admit i have done it before :)
Also, some people who resort to personal arguments do win because they are closer to the topic and perhaps have a better view or knowledge of/about it.

Religion is folklore and should not be taken as fact. All religions claim that theirs is the only true religion. Reality is what we live through and we need to accept that. The churches of the world are simply magnets that attract paedophiles into their employment.

Now look here you evil devil worshipper, are you trying to do away with people's God-given right to insult anyone who isn't a member of exactly the same religious strain as they are? God said to the Jews, love your neighbour as yourself and respect the stranger living in your midst. Jesus told us to love one another and to love our enemies. The Qur'an tells Muslims to be merciful as Allah is merciful. And if you tell me anything different, I'll burn you at the stake.
