Good question, but your extra spiel on it makes you seem foolish. Anyway, people, ANIMALS play. Could be video games, board games what have you. As a matter of fact, you're playing right now. You could be playing the role of a student, or the role of a husband, or an esoteric know-it-all on Y!A. Play and reality are complementary; you can't have one without the other. You develop mentally with play. You grew up playing, be honest. Your first instincts when you were growing up were based on curiosity. Games like video games are an escape from the reality into another reality, where you have competitive spirit, and certain rules you have to follow, just as in real life. But I do think video games take away the genuine imagination of some people, if not all, during play. It also lacks any real physical activity. Go read those texts on play. They're not really long, but you will see why play is important in life.
