poly/viscose kilt for wedding?

Hi I have bought a poly/viscose kilt for my sisters wedding. I am getting a lot of grief over it as the family say its not a proper kilt. It’s a bit firm and does not swing as well but it was less than 10% the cost of a handmade. Should I just not care what anyone thinks or should I break the bank for a garment I will only ware once maybe twice in a lifetime.

    you tried conditioning it?

a cool wash and some fabric conditioner should soften it up.

Traditional kilts are wool and pricey, i would look into hiring one if conditioning doesn't work otherwise you will look odd in the photos

have you checked into renting a kilt? you can find several sites online that rent kilts. one of them is rentkilts.com.

besides renting one, here are a couple of thoughts on this.....first of all, if you are a member of the clan to whom the kilt pattern belongs, and you go for the real thing, you could look at it as an investment to pass down as a family heirloom. you may be surprised how often you get to wear it if you come from a traditional family.

secondly, if you are really strapped for cash and the family wants you to invest in the real thing, ask them for some help toward the cost.

if you do go for the real thing, you can always try to sell it on ebay if you really don't want to keep it. have

If it's a USA Kilt, that should be okay. It's better to have a tailored kilt, than a rental that will not be right on.

A kilt is a kilt. If you want to wear whatever, everyone should respect that.
