Anyone else having puppy potty issues?
I have a 9 week old APBT/Mastiff mix, male, neutered. Yes, he is pretty young to be fixed, but I got him from an animal shelter and they "alter" all animals before releasing them.
The issue: he pees VERY often. I have read that a puppy this young can only hold his/her bladder for about 3 hours. Having said that, he was going pee (inside) about every 30 minutes and now it is down to about every 5 minutes.
He has shown possible signs of separation anxiety (whining/wimpering and destructive behaviors regardless of the number of toys/treats/entertainment provided). I do not yet have a crate (it arrives in two days) and the bathroom appears to big to hold him (as he pees and poops everywhere in it), so right now he is (sadly) confined to a heavily newspapered closet.
I have heard he may have a urinary tract infection, but other than the frequency in urination, it does not appear cloudy and has the exact opposite of a punjent smell (it is actually smelling less like urine and more like water).
Needless to say, I take him out for potty breaks about once every two to three hours, as well as additionally each time he eats or drinks (if I can make it in time).
My question: is anyone else having this issue and has anything helped? Thanks! Haha.
*Update: He just recently peed on my dogs pillow, then a couch pillow, then lapped up some water and immediately walked to the carpet and peed once more.
Well, I only just brought him home a few days ago and before that he was with a foster family who lived on a farm. Between that and the fact that he's doing much better this morning, I bet he was only nervous because my break was canceled at work leaving him home alone for four hours straight as opposed to two, two hour leaves.
And to all miss/mister mighty poster at the bottom, there was a lot of thought put into this and there was a pen, the same pen that has been used for years--a bathroom. And then a closet. And soon a crate (sorry for wanting to save $90 and buy it online as opposed to in-store).
Thanks for the help!

in my opinion he doesn't know that outside is his bathroom yet. you need to watch him like a hawk and as soon as he is done drinking, eating, playing, as soon as he wakes up and even if he gets up and goes into another room take him outside right then! when he goes praise him like he is the greatest thing in the world. i have two puppies myself they are both four months old and when i first got them i was taking them out every fifteen minutes. you can't expect a puppy that young to hold it that long, as much as you want them too. it is actually amazing how much a puppy can pee. i hope i helped.

It definitely sounds like he has a UTI. The fact that his urine is neither cloudy nor pungent means nothing; neither are required symptoms. Since it's common for dogs with UTIs to drink much more water (since they need to stay hydrated, since they keep peeing so much), their urine is often highly diluted by the water. The more water you drink, the more the urine will resemble water in both odor and appearance. (And this is a good thing. He needs to drink in excess to help flush out his urinary tract, which is currently chock full of nasty bacteria.)
Please bring him to a vet as soon as possible. He'll require a course of antibiotics like Clavamox to fight off the infection, and you're not going to make any progress in housetraining until he's able to control his bladder (which he is currently unable to do, thanks to the infection). I recommend being swift in scheduling an appointment, because UTIs are painful and incredibly annoying. Just having to wait a day or two for the antibiotics has driven me up a wall in the past, and I'm sure the same is true for your puppy. Oh, another reason why you'll want to have him diagnosed as soon as possible is that if left untreated, UTIs can spread from the urinary tract to the bladder and kidneys and become quite serious.
Here's my favorite article about housebreaking, which may be of use once his infection's cleared up:

By the way, if you don't address his separation anxiety now, it's bound to only get worse as time goes on! Here's some help:

Oh, and I don't mean to be rude, but I hope you put more thought into preparation next time. You really, really ought to have at least had a pen ready for him, if not the actual crate.

Your puppy most likely has a Urinary Tract infection.
I recently aquired a 16 week old puppy, and I knew by the next morning he had a UTI.
He has been on two different antibiotics. He still urinates more frequently then I think he should. He may be going in for further diagnositcs to make sure the infection-that he probably had for a long time- has not damaged his kidneys.
Get your puppy to the vet for a diagnosis.

if she is bleeding, it would end in 3-4 days. If she is vomiting, it must be something she have been given into. often ingesting too lots grass might reason any dogs to vomit. constantly have water down for her. If she remains ingesting she would be able to be super. If she isn't ingesting take her to the vet. My vet instructed me that if my dogs had foodstuff poisoning (she replaced into vomiting) to place a dab of hassle-free yogurt on her nostril. supply her some teaspoon and slowly dab it on her nostril. she would be able to lick it off. The micro organism contained in the yogurt will counteract the disillusioned tummy. I purely had to do it 2 circumstances and he or she replaced into greater valuable. She started ingesting day after today. contained sooner or later- dogs often are available in warmth each 6 months on well-known. They sell something call ***** pants so a male dogs would not bounce your infant. that's a understand actuality that male dogs will capture the heady scent of a female from a minimum of 5 miles away. that's relatively helpful to maintain music purely in case.

Tell him you will be back in a little awhile and use the bathroom instead of the closet, cause the pee and the poo will go through the newspaper.

he needs to go to the vet ASAP no dog not even a puppy should be going to the bathroom every 5 minutes even if he doesn't know the difference between inside and out.

It sounds like its definitely time for a trip to the vet. His behavior is not normal. He could have a uti, or something worse, like a kidney infection or some systemic issue.
Best of luck.

It helps if you catch your puppy doing it and pop their nose and rub it in it. take him outside and when he does it outside give him a cat treat. dogs love cat treats.
hope i helped.(:
