my dog vomited ALOT then started shaking-like cold tremors, she won't eat even her favorite snacks ?

My five month old puppy vomited a lot (two large piles) today then started shaking (like when a dog gets cold) she won't stop shaking. She will not eat, even her favorite table scraps or doggie snacks! She lays there looking so sad and tired. The last thing she ate was some dried deer jerky a friend gave us. What could be wrong? Could the deer meat have been tainted or I missed something she may have ingested? What should I do. I have no money for a vet and need help please someone.

Update:

Never said I am broke all the time, don't have money RIGHT now, I work, paid good, don't get apid till later in week. Help don't be cruel or rude.

Update 2:

My dog has been vacinated, cleared of parvo. Just think she ate something bad. Are u people on here to help or antaginize and criticize others in need?

all of the above links are things you need to be concerned about given his age. Best advice i can give you is to get to a vet ASAP, check in the phone book and internet for free examination coupons for vets in your area, most vets have them.

APPLY for care credit, it is a medical credit card that most vets will take and it give you at least 3 months interest and finance free to pay off your bill. www.carecredit.com

Your baby needs some tests and medications to get better. the tests that will most likely be needed are:

CBC: checks for infection, anemia, and platelets

Chem 12: checks liver and kidneys along with diabetes,

    Electrolytes check for dehydration severity,

if under 3 years old Parvo test: checks for parvo,

Fecal floatation and direct will check for parasites, worms, and bacteria that can be causing this problem

    CPL: pancreatitis

Giardia: A parasite that lives in water that can be transmitted to people

Radiographs: to check for abnormalities with in the abdominal area.

in the mean time with hold food and water for several hours this will give the stomach time to calm down. Once vomiting has ceased for 2 hours you need to rehydrate your baby slowly you can do this by trying to give pedilyte bubble gum or plain flavor in either ice cube form or by mouth ~ 3 to 6 cc every 30 minutes . once vomiting has ceased for 6 hours then increase amount given by 3 cc each time. Once vomiting has ceased for 24 hours then you can start with a bland diet of boiled chicken or ground chop meat and plain white rice, no salt , butter or seasoning. feed small amounts 4-6 times a day.

depending on how the tests come back your baby may need to stay in the hospital and get IV fluids and injections of medications in order to recover.

Please try for the care credit, look for a coupon, call your vet and try to make arrangements if you are declined for care credit and go see them.

you are probably looking at pancreatitis or gastrointestinites and she probably needs a few days to recover... stay ahead of the dehydration as much as possible.

best of luck to you and your baby!

I assume you're at the vet now. She could have eaten something toxic like rat poison or fertilizer. That shaking could have been a seizure. It's also possible that it was an insulin induced seizure. Low blood sugar. Goodluck to you and your dog!

I gave my Chihuahua some venison once. He threw up and pooped black for a week. Venison is very rich for especially a pup's digestive system. Add seasonings and dried.....It's no wonder he threw up. I agree with giving a dog table scraps. I do it often with my little girl but be cautious as to what you give her. I've found that wild meat, pork, onions and such can upset their tummies. If she doesn't get better within a day or two, you may have to contact a vet. Use your own judgment. It won't lead you astray.

Type 2 diabetes, usually referred to as adult onset, is when your body produces insulin but can not use it properly. This type can be treated successfully with the right diet and exercise in most circumstances. Read here https://tr.im/Zwn0E

If blood sugars are not kept under control at some point insulin will probably be integrated / oral medications are also available. People with diabetes can live long, happy lives but must be diligent in their care and make sure you see your endocrinologist on a regular basis.

Better get some money for a vet cause you're gonna need one. NOW! Why did you get a puppy when you don't have enough money to take care of one? Your dog could have parvo which is deadly.

Get the dog to a vet right away, if you don't have money be honest with the vet office and ask them if they would still be able to help your dog.

  • 1 decade ago

Call a local vet immediately!! Tell them exactly what happened and explain your financial situation. No vet would turn away an injured or sick animal because of money.

I'll say a prayer for your little one!

I had a chocolate labrador that literally wouldn't shut up. Since I found http://onlinedogtraining.enle.info/?a25i

She was 4 years old, we had our son and her barking was keeping him up at night. So my grandfather told me take a soda can put some change in it and tape the lid shut (I used duct-tape). Every time she barked I would shake the can and say quiet in a stearn voice. The sound startled her into stop barking then she heard my command. It took about a week and she stopped. You must not allow the dog to bark at all though. If you do then they will do it when they are not supposed to ie, when your not home. As far as for when your not home, I think the only none electrical, spray thing I can think of is a soft mussel. They can drink with the soft mussel on and it doesn't hurt them, they just can't bark or bite. From what I understand it is very hard to get a dog to stop barking at an advanced age. You are trying to stop something that is ingrained in them to do. Now a few questions for you, are the dogs being crate trained? If they are crated trying put a light blanket over the crate, to limit the stimuli around them. Do they have access to windows? What is the reason they are barking? Maybe it is something in there surroundings causing them to bark. Maybe people talking, people walking by, animals outside. If this is the case then maybe try limiting there access to this stimuli. Maybe crating them in a secluded area of the house to limit stimuli. Make it so they cannot see out the window any more. If it is seperation anxiety, take an old t-shirt sleep in for a night and then put it in the dogs crate with him. It will smell like you and help the dog feel more at ease. I did this when I went away to the hospital to have our son. It helped Kaylea alot. These are all thing my grandfather suggested to me for my dog. I tried them all but the crate training as I don't really believe in it. Reducing the stimuli greatly reduced her barking. The only thing that stopped it was the "noise can" I called it
