22y/o tourists getting car insurance in the US?
My mate and I are hoping to tour across the U.S. to celebrate graduation. Starting in one place and driving to another, so we'll have to buy the car (he's staying over there), and we want to get insured on it.
However, we're 22 y/o Brits and I've heard that can be difficult. Google just feeds me lots of car rental insurance stuff; how would it work in the US if we wanted to buy the car there? Do you guys have any advice?
Thanks for the suggestion, but my mate is probably working in the US for at least the next 6 months, so he was planning on keeping it. I would only need to be insured for 4-5 weeks though.
Peedlepup: he has family in Ithaca, would he be able to register insurance to there, or to a UK address, or would it have to be to be a permanent address he was in in the US?

It is next to impossible for a Brit to get a work visa for the United States, and without a work visa you can't legally work in the U.S. Please tell us how he did that.
To get insurance you will need a permanent address to register and insure the car. Without that, it's not going to happen.

Insurance in the US tends to be expensive for the under-25 crowd. If you own the car, any company should be willing to sell you insurance if you are willing to pay for it. Citizenship is not an issue. However, your age, foreign license and lack of residency will all drive up the price.
I would suggest you rent a car. Many companies let you return it at a different location.

You wouldn't have to buy the car. Lots of places, (in the US at least) allow you to rent a car and drop it off at different locations across the nation. Other then that though, I'm not sure how to get insurance so I can't really help you out there.

Careful... As a Brit DO NOT DRIVE in the US without full collision damage waiver. The US is litigation centre of the universe, so much as a prang and you may end up owing the rest of your life.
Thing is, under 26 CDW is massively expensive...
My advice is to wait or get an American mate to drive?!?!
