What's up with Felix Sturm?
Does anyone know what's going on with Felix Sturm? It has been over ten months he last fought and there has been no signs or word on him fighting anytime soon. There's been so much talk about Martinez, Pavlik, and Williams, just to name a few, while Sturm seems to be the forgotten man. This was a guy who gave Oscar De La Hoya fits and in my opinion should have won that fight.

Felix Sturm has not fought since July of last year due to problems with his promotional company, Universum- Sturm feels that he is a free agent and that the contract expired and as such, he no longer wants to fight for them, however Universum disagrees and claims that Sturm is still under contract with them. The matter is attempting to be resolved as we speak and it will be taken to court on May 27th and the matter should be completely resolved by July according to Sturm. According to an article from fightnews.com, Sturm and his team are hoping to have their next fight on September 4th or September 11th against an opponent to be announced.
Since Sturm's last fight, the WBA has elevated him to "super" champion while they have ordered a purse bid for Anthony Mundine to face Gennady Golovkin for the "regular" title, however Mundine has been MIA so to speak on that potential fight, so Golovkin may face the next highest rated available contender for the "regular" title. Since Sturm is now the "super" champion, he will have more leniency concerning defending his title against mandatory challengers and as such, the WBA will not strip him despite the fact that by the time he fights again, it will have been over a year since he last defended his title. The "super" title is usually reserved for when one of their titlists unifies the division but the WBA has ignored that rule multiple times now and they most likely elevated Sturm to "super" champion so that their top-rated contenders could fight for a world title while their champion (Sturm) is tied up in a legal battle which doesn't allow him to defend his title, so instead of stripping him, they elevated his status while the top 2 available contenders below him will fight for the "regular" title.
The only time that Sturm has left Germany is when he came to Las Vegas and lost the controversial decision to Oscar De La Hoya that you mentioned and I doubt that he would come back to face the likes of Sergio Martinez, Kelly Pavlik or Paul Williams because those guys are big names but they're nowhere as big of a name as Oscar was and it would be too much of a risk for Sturm to take when he could just as easily keep milking his title by defending it against mid-level contenders in Germany. I think a more likely fight would be him to try and unify the division against the IBF titlist Sebastian Sylvester because for 1, Sylvester is also German and secondly, Sturm has already defeated Sylvester in a clear decision win, so I'm sure that Sturm would have no problem attempting to do it again, especially since this time, he'd be winning another world title in the process.
Oh yeah and Woody- what's up with the "Dead Silence" avatar? Lol, did you like that movie or something because I personally thought it sucked (that's just me though) lol.

Here's what I heard and from the sound of it, he's in sort of a ruck. A couple of months ago I read that he was trying to cut ties with Universum so he's trying to get that sorted out, promotion lawsuits and all that jazz. Then I heard some good news that Roach was willing to help train Sturm and that he would possibly in the U.S. THEN I heard that he was getting even more tied up with legal affairs with Universum and contract stipulations and such. I've actually been very fond of Sturm, he's a very good boxer that can take fundamental skills and sick 'em on an opponent with great efficiency (the DLH fight). I was hoping a fight with Sturm vs Abraham would eventually happen since their both out of Germany, but it never happened and now with the middleweight division just left with Sebastein Sylvester and Sergio Martinez, one could wonder if they can all face off. I for one hope he comes back, since he's the WBA "Super" champ, they'll allow him to stay inactive for awhile (ala Shane Mosley) so all we can do is hope he gets his stuff together and comes over for a U.S. re-debut.

In haven't heard much about him lately, he hasn't fought in a couple years. He did more then give Oscar fits, I thought Sturm beat Oscar and got robbed by the judges.n Felix has to be getting older, so maybe it's that time in his career when he is considering hanging up the gloves.

Like the guy above said - two promoters fighting/suing over his rights, by the time its resolved age and rust will make it pretty much moot.
Too bad, he would be a great matchup for the guys in the budding 154-168 field.

Two promotional companies have been fighting over him and it has been keeping him out of the ring. He wants to leave his current company for a much more lucrative offer.
