American Sim in a British Phone?
I am considering buying an American sim card for my up and coming trip in two weeks (to america)as I will be away for 3 months. I was just wondering if I divert my calls from my UK number (Virgin Mobile) to the American one whether the person calling or texting me would be charged for calling my british mobile in a foreign country or the american number? I am a bitty clueless as I have never diverted my number in anyway. Thanks in Advance.
Oh by the way my phone is unlocked.

The person ringing you would be charged as normal, you would pay for the international call as it would be diverted from your phone, it will cost you hundreds if not thousands of pounds so don't do it. Incidentally even if your phone is unlocked if it is not a quad band phone it won't work with an american sim anyway and American contracts are different to ours they always pay for incoming calls on their mobiles.

It probably will work, since it's a quad-band GSM phone (US-only GSM phones are dual band and don't work in UK/europe, but quad band phones are global). BUT... you might find that it will only work for voice and texts, and not data. This seems to be a common problem when using unlocked phones in a different country. I guess you'll just have to try it and see; if it doesn't work right you can always buy a new unlocked phone in the UK.
