Help on Algebra problem?

Length—x:

2(x + x - 3) = 94

2x - 3 = 47

2x = 50

x = 25

Width:

= 25 - 3

= 22

Answer: length, 25 inches; width; 22 inches

Width—w:

2(x + x + 3) = 38

2x + 3 = 19

2x = 16

x = 8

Length:

= 8 + 3

= 11

Answer: width, 8 inches; length, 11 inches

The Length of a rectangle is 3 inches more than width. The perimeter is 94 inches. Find the length and width

In a rectangle there are 2 widths and 2 lengths.so you subtract 3*2 from 94:

94-6=88

so now you divide the number by two to get the size of the widths:

88/2=44

to get the size of one width divide by 2 again:

44/2=22

so W=22

after this just add one of the 3s you subtracted from the 94 (you subtracted 6 which is two 3s):

22+3=25

so L=25

lets add it all together to check:

25+22=47

47*2=94

38-6=32

32/2=16

16/2=8

W=8

8+3=11

L=11

Check:

11+8=19

19*2=38

Make width = x

x + x + (x+3) + (x+3) = 94 (This is the two lenghts and widths of the rectangle)

2x + (2x + 6) =94

4x + 6 = 94

4x = 88

x = 22

Therefor the width is 22 and the length is 22 + 3 = 25

Test 22 + 22 + 25 + 25 (two lenghts and two widths) = 94

94 = 2x + 2y + 6

88 - 2x = 2y

44 - x = y
