What kind of paint works best on roof shingles?
I want to paint my roof white, so that it reflects the summer heat. I understand this can make a whopping big difference in energy costs when you live in a southern climate! (I'm at 36 degrees north latitude.)
I actually have two questions: what kind of paint would work best? And what is the best method for applying this paint?
Any other roof painting tips are welcome!

It is a waste of time to paint your roof white. I have lived in houses with both white and black roofs in Southeast Texas and there is no difference in the bill. For best results insulate the house better

Before you paint you should determine how old the roof shingles are. If they are old they will need to be replace soon even if you do paint. In this case I wouldn't waste money painting and then have to replace in a few years. Just put on new shingles that are a light color to start with. That will last a lot longer than paint will.

Look into a product called "Cool-Seal". That's used a lot for mobile homes and commercial buildings.
