What to look for when hiring a teacher?
I am on a committee to interview and hire new teachers at the elementary and high school in my community. What are the things to look for in order to hire the teachers who will have the best success at our school?

the above mentioned answers, and
* clean criminal record (but your district already knows that)
* understands what it means to show up every day for work
* communicates effectively with students, parents, co-workers, administration
* knows how to guard confidential information
* average GPA in college...straight A students didn't have to work at it, I'd rather have a teacher who knows what it is to struggle once in a while
* dresses professionally (hate seeing teachers in flip-flops and/or ratty jeans--kids don't respect that either!!)
* willing to go the extra miles (it's impossible to do all a teacher's work during only "contract hours")
* would be willing to edit any info about self on virtual social networks (lots of teachers getting in snafoos because of Facebook, et al)
***speaks a second language & has lived or traveled internationally(broader experience enriches teaching)
*** understands the importance of the invisible line between teachers/students, adults/kids
*** has had to make a difficult or unpopular decision but was willing to suffer the consequences because it was the right thing to do (telling on a cheater, reporting illegal activity, etc)

Main Things that must be taken care of are:-
1. Qualifications. i.e. If it's a young teacher, or first time teacher, is all their certification paperwork in order.
2. Look at your school. How diverse is it? Like it or not, as someone who hires, the kids benefit from having teachers with all sorts of backgrounds... even in mostly homogeneous schools. It won't hurt them to have an Asian woman teaching Algebra, a Hispanic man teaching World Cultures, and a Black lady teaching Music.
3. Work Ethic. In the references, look for terms like "liberal with their free time," and "goes the extra mile." Whether the person is an introvert or an extrovert, funny or serious, liberal or conservative, tall or short... doesn't matter one ounce. What does matter is that they have a strong work ethic.
Besides, following factors can be considered as well.

I'm a teacher and I know what I'd look for.
1) How he/she describes interaction with the kids at that age level. Elementary interaction is completely different from high school
2) Job hopper......Has this person been to 10 school districts in 22 years? If so, why?
3) Certification......
4) Professional presentation......while this person will not come to school in a suit or suit/skirt the way they come to an interview says alot about their teaching.

Perhaps the protesting teachers have much better credentials than the others. Perhaps they have social ties within the schools that the school boards don't want to sever. Either way, protesting is not illegal. Bill of Rights, man. It guarantees the right to protest peacefully, so as long as they're not turning over cars or torching buildings, they have the right to protest against presumably unfair working conditions.

It is better to chose on the basis of their knowledge and how interesting is it for students to understand and have fun. If she is capable of make lessons interesting then students will look forward for their classes so they benefit and also you.
