Cinderella - opening for AC/DC, 1988. Absolutely blew me away, and it's a real shame that they got lumped in with the hair metal movement that was happening at the time. They could have had a very long career otherwise. I saw them again in 2001, and they were just as good. They really deserved a better dealing of the cards.

The Time - opening for Prince, 2004. Their opening slot was never announced, and was a secret to everyone in the building until they took the stage. They absolutely blew the place up, and Prince was the ONLY act who could have followed them that night.

Blues Traveler - opening for the Black Crowes, 1995. They probably weren't the "opening act", per se, as they organized the HORDE Festival that they were performing at, but they *were* the next to last band, setting up the Crowes. Unbelievable live band at that point of their career. As much of a Crowes fan as I am, they simply couldn't follow BT that night.

They weren't really an opening act but I went to Sunfest a few years ago and The Black Crowes played right before Parliament and at the end of Parliament's set The Crowes came back out and together they played this crazy awesome medley of Remedy and Aquaboogie.

Faith No More opening for GNR and Metallica.

Queens Of The Stone Age opening for Nine Inch Nails.

  • I agree Shades, Wonderland in the day was a Flamo Bamo. I had to give them the nod over the stones, mostly because of the disruptions when the stones came on. aND, although I love the stones. and the charisma of them, there was a little green man in my head, who said: WTF.

almost forgot what I here for.

    1. Little Richard

    2. Taj Mahal

    3. NRPS

    other and beyond Wonderlands.

    Nice Here!

    Good morning Shades :)

I've never actually been to a concert with an opening act {these days, FM don't need one!}, but there is one I know of from 1970 that I would have loved to see :~

    Trees {British Folk-Rock band} for Fleetwood Mac {end of the Peter Green era}

Hey now Shades. The 3 that come to mind for me are:

    J. Geils Band for Jethro Tull

Alice Cooper for Emerson, Lake & Palmer

Sting opening for the Grateful Dead (awesome)

Only two stand out in my mind right now. If my overloaded memory has an unexpected surge I'll edit to add a third.

    Commander Cody for Jefferson Airplane

    James Gang for Rare Earth

    * this isn't rock but anyway....Waylon Jennings for Willie Nelson.

I used to listen to some "outlaw" country before it became so cliche.

Mexico, senoritas, gettin' drunk blah blah blah

    Hi Shades,

    Mine are:

    1. AC/DC opening for Aerosmith in '77,

    2. Fairport Convention opening for Jethro Tull ('88 or '89), and

    3. PJ Harvey opening for U2 in 2001

I have only been to 2 rock concerts in my life (because I am sort of new to the scene)

    Franz Ferdinand for Green Day

    Little Fish for Hole

They were great opening acts and the headliners were amazing :)

    In no particular order:

Tommy Castro - opened for Buddy Guy and B.B. King

Ratt - opened up for Cinderella [FireHouse and Quiet Riot were also openers, but Ratt was the best that night next to Cinderella...Quiet Riot just sucked]

Whitesnake - opened for Scorpions [Dokken was also an opening night, but they completely sucked]
