is it appropriate to put a "english only" sign at my homes front door?
I moved into a mixed neighborhood 15 years ago and now its mostly hispanic, the problem is all the "spanish outreach" programs, i keep getting woke up from people banging on my front door to sell and promote spanish stuff that obviously i dont want or need. I was thinking if i put the english only sign up they would leave my house alone and not litter it with all the spanish flyers etc. and i could finally get some undisturbed sleep. my family is mixed and no one says there is a problem with the small sign.

The "English Only" is not appropriate. However, I think you would benefit from a small sign that says, "No Soliciting." You can find them even in gift shops. But I have shown you one that is very pretty and easily available online (see below).
People who come to your door will then notice that the sign is in English, and will (hopefully) make the assumption that you do speak English.
Have a polite day.

Just make sure the sign is in Spanish, or else they may not understand your sign. Be specific. If you don't want them to leave flyers, say so. A Jehovah's Witness team would come to our door every Saturday morning at 8am and wake us up! It was awful - we could never sleep on our day off. My husband put a sign out in Spanish that specifically said "If you are from the Jehovah's Witnesses, do not ring the doorbell. We are not interested." People may be offended, but I personally think it's rude that people are leaving litter on your property, and interrupting your privacy.

You can put any type of sign you want to, it's your house! People need to STOP worrying about hurting someone's feelings when it comes to their life! That's part of the problem with this country today! PC, (political Correctness), is Wrong! Because of PC, Americans, whose fathers and forefathers helped create this country, have had & are continuing to have OUR RIGHTS TAKEN AWAY!
Christians are the most persecuted religion in the world & the Muslims goal, (which started over 2000 years ago), is coming to fruition, to bring the entire world under Muslim control...how do they do this? See above...silence & punish and also kill, those who do not conform & convert.
Put the sign up! They are trespassing in YOUR space. Put a no soliciting sticker on your mailbox to prevent them from coming on your property.
Pint isc, do what YOU want, it's your Life to control, they don't have the right to control it!

If you live in an area that is so thoroughly mixed that stores put up signs in both English and Spanish, then you should be able to find a sign that says, "No Soliciting" in both English and Spanish.

If you're truly worried about offending someone (since you're asking about "appropriateness") put up a sign that says "No Soliciting." This will tell anyone that comes to your door uninvited that they are not welcome.

Don't put "English only" because it is prejudiced, but use the 'No Soliciting' sign.
