yahoo messegner not working?

i installed yahoo messegner. but it s not connecting to the rooms. and i m not able to send messages to my friends those who arte in my contacts. the message is not appearing on the screen

    Click Start>> All Programs and look for Yahoo Messenger.

    Place your pointer on and and right/click>> Pin to Start Menu.

    Right/click>> Add Shortcut.

    Now you have to places to open it from.
