New install of windows xp doesn't recognize hardware properly?

Update:

The laptop is a Gateway MX7120, I've found a couple websites that offer the drivers, supposedly. But none of them will allow me to save them on my PS3 or smartphone, because the website detects that I'm not running windows.

Did you use a recovery disc set made for your lap top or an install of XP from another lap top or desk top ?

    Clean Install Windows XP: http://www.theeldergeek.com/clean_installation_of_...

What brand and model lap top ? need this to locate correct drivers, the drivers can be found on the manufacturers support website by model number.

Re-installing fresh copy of operating system (Windows OS) will need to re-load also the driver of the hardware in that computer. So if you freshly re-install the Windows then chances are you lost most of the hardware drivers in your computer. To solve the issue? simply go to the website of manufacturer to that computer then download the drivers you need.Got HP? http://hp.com/ Dell? http://dell.com/ IBM?http://lenovo.com/

    Good luck..
