In general, how politically correct is the Israeli media?

In Europe and North America, the media tends to crawl on their hands and knees to appease Muslims, for example comparing daily non-stop Islamic terrorism to absurd isolated incidents of Christian terrorism, such as the bombing of an abortion clinic that happens once every five years. (Some outlets don't even use the descriptive term, for fear of offending the hypersensitive.)

This of course is mostly a result of fifty years of cultural self-belittlement in public life and a dangerous misunderstanding that ALL religions are free to be criticized and mocked. Scholars like Chomsky and Finkelstein, while a very erudite group, offer useless commentary on this conflict by assuming that the Muslim World acts rationally and can by placated by reading a textbook. So considering that Israel faces so many threats, is the media there generally more blunt and honest?

There are certain changes in the Israel´s media. For many years, the public opinion in Israel was voiced by three newspapers: "Haaretz", "Maariv" and "Yediot Ahronot" .

Of them, "Haaretz" is far- left, "Maariv" is central-left , and Yediot Ahronot is central.

Buut when the people of Israel felt on their own skins what the "Oslo Accord", "peace initiatives" and other leftist tricks meant for them and their children, they started to abandon the left-wing parties and the media that supported them. The situation for Haaretz today is close to the catastrophe. Its share of the domestic market fell from 24% in the middle 90s to 6% today, and of these 6% at least a half subscribes for Haaretz only because of its The Marker, Haaretz business section which is the best business supplement in Israel. Haaretz is close to bancruptcy, and if not for the investment done by the new owner of the 25% of the total number of the haaretz shares - German investor named group DuMont Schauberg - Haaretz would have by now be dead.

"Maariv" follows suit: its share of the domestic media market has fallen to 14.4% (from 20% just 5 years ago), and goes on falling.

And whose share of the domestic market sky-rocketed in the last 5 years? The Western public do not know this , but it´s the daily "Israel HaYom"(Israel today), which now has 26.9% of the market share and is threatening the "Yediot Ahronot" with its 34.2%. The paper has “caused a revolution in the map of Israeli print media, providing a platform for different opinions,” Israel Media Watch says. Its chief editor Amos Regev “ managed to unite a wide and balanced range of the best journalists and commentators and provides the broad public with a true alternative to the near-monopoly that has controlled the press up to now.”

Ysrael haYom does not categorize itself as "left", "central" or "right"; it categorizes itself as being objective , and it is. And being objective is not compatible neither with the leftist ideology nor with the "political correctness".

whilst i dont think that they are particularly politically correct i think that israel has a really big problem....

the palestinians dont seem to be good at many things but they are absolute whizzes at spinning their media for world sympathy.

for some reason israel sucks at this... it really dismays me that israel doesnt ever tell their whole story to the world, what they have to put up with and why they do what they do. in a way they need to do this not only for israel but for all of the western world to realise that if they dont hurry up and stop the appeasement of muslims worldwide it will be too late for the west.

Israeli journalists and papers are sometimes capable of criticizing the Israeli authorities for criminal actions, in a way which no American media source would do.
