i want to open a small pet shop?
Right yeah as the title suggests i wish to open a small pet store. I have no idea of how to get started or where to go to to get started. I know first point will be to buy or rent a small retail outlet but then what? Any ideas?

Your best bet is not to right now. Instead get a job at a successful pet store and learn the ropes before trying it yourself. You may find out after seeing what the owner does and how much he makes (which you should be able to infer after some time there) that you don't want any part of being a small retailer.
Working a year or so at the store will give you an idea of expenses, suppliers and tasks as well as methods to bring in customers. You can spend 100 years here and not learn as much.

Hi the first thing you could do is start working on your business plan. Maybe look for a Start your own business course with you county council or source books on that. Also a business management course may be useful too.
I wouldn't invest money until you have your plan and all your market research done. Attending trade shows can be fun. Get some work experience in a pet shop. Keep your over heads as low as possible when you do start up.
Do you love animals because, your customers may be happy to chat all day about their precious pooches.
A lot of pet shops now do dog grooming, this gets your customers in the store too.
Good luck

I own Pembina Valley Pets and here's some free advice.
A) You need to think of and writeup a Business Plan. That should take a minimum of 30hrs to do
B) You need information of wholesalers and how you plan of getting product in, with the cheapest possible way
C) You need to register a Business Name
Then you can shop for a location. You can't jump into anything with business. You need to have everything planned out so that there isn't any surprises.

You might want to LEGALLY open that, just suggesting. I don't know how strict your neighbors or police around your area might be. And I wouldn't put 'Raw' or 'Meat' in the title because it's not mainly meats and people might mistake it for a butcher shop rather than a pet store. And my name suggestions are: PetHouse - Pet treats, toys, & more (slogan/desc) Eh, that's all I can think of. lol
