criminal punishments and what they actually require the criminal to carry them out?

I would like to know what all the different punishments in the UK actually involve and what the criminal must do to complete a punishment. We have community punishment referral orders treatment orders combined orders the list is endless yet I cannot find anywhere that tells me what is the actual punishment the criminal has to carry out when they are given these supposedly harsh sentences to complete

There are various criminal penalties in the UK. They can be anything from fines to driving bans to probation to imprisonment, or even a discharge (conviction recorded with no punishment.)

The idea of them all is clear, but it is also clear your idea of them is wrong. The purpose of community orders (unpaid work) and treatment orders, anger management courses etc, is not to be "harsh". The idea is rehabilitation.

Clearly fines are meant to be a financial punishment, tailored to the individual to hit them in the pocket, taking someone's disposable income without taking his necessary living costs. The idea of prison is clearly to deliver to society the pound of flesh it demands. But prison is expensive. It costs about £30k a year to send someone to prison. The combined legal costs of sending someone to prison, plus the cost of running a prison divided by each prisoner costs something like £580/week. Clearly it is an expensive option and should not really be used for the pettiest offenders and non-violent offenders.

If you want full details of a defendant's sentence, then attend the court for sentencing, it is open to anyone, unless it is a youth court.

It is my view that restorative justice should be the norm where possible. If I burgle your house when I know you are out, does it benefit you or anyone to send me to prison for a couple of months? Does it get you your property back? No. What is more, if you were not insured, you will bear the cost of replacing your property yourself. A far better punishment would be to simply make the defendant pay for what was stolen and a suitable compensation component.

Community punishments are designed to match the defendant and local programmes for the purpose. They can make use of a defendant's skills if he has any, or even his talents.

As things stand under the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008, a magistrates court cannot impose a community order for a non-imprisonable offence, but it can impose a prison sentence for failing to comply with such an order.

The idea is to save money and do something constructive. Punishments can be visible (sometimes we see the "community payback" jackets worn by people sweeping the streets), and in times like these, even though the public generally support tough sentencing, I doubt they would rather spend billions on prisons and prison officers when services like schools, hospitals and higher education face savage cuts.

Romans 13:a million appreciate for Authority absolutely everyone could desire to positioned up to governing government. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been located there via God. 2 So absolutely everyone who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and that they are going to be punished. 3 For the government do not strike worry in people who're doing authentic, yet in people who're doing incorrect. could you opt for for to stay without worry of the government? Do what's nice, and that they'll honor you. 4 The government are God's servants, sent on your good. yet once you're doing incorrect, for sure you're able to desire to be afraid, for they have the flexibility to punish you. they are God's servants, sent for the very objective of punishing people who do what's faulty. 5 so which you're able to desire to positioned up to them, not in hassle-free terms to evade punishment, yet in addition to maintain a sparkling experience of right and incorrect.
