  • Best printer for printing postcards and thick paper/card?

I am having trouble finding a small desk top printer to print onto postcards and thick card .The printer I have an Epson stylus does not grab the card to feed it through the printer and even applying pressure is a hit and miss game resulting in misplaced print etc. They have to be available in the UK and can be black and white only as we only print text onto preprinted cards. It is for a charity to print thankyou cards so the cheaper the better but reliability and longevity is also needed Thanks in advance for your help

  • How to repair sunglasses?

I have several pairs of sunglasses and the arms are broken on one pair the lenses are scratched on another and the frame is broken on another.I thought it would be a simple operation to replace the broken arms of one pair of glasses with the arms from a pair with a broken lens. I have detached the arms bought a glasses repair kit with longer screws yet the hole that the screw goes through to hold the arm on to the frame seems to be spring loaded .It does not matter what I do I cannot get the holes to line up so I can get he new screw through it and do them up.I can't even put the arm back on that I took off for the same reason. Does anyone know of any tricks that allow you too keep the spring-loaded bit out so the holes all line up and the screw can be screwed in .I have tried trapping pieces of wire in the gap but none of them seem to want to stay in place .The glasses were a present from my wife so I would like to fix them rather than get a new pair which would of course be easier. Thanks for any help

  • How to preserve an old photograph?

I have come into possession of some photographs of relatives while researching family trees. These photos are up to 100 years old (one is dated 1910). I am not sure if scanning them using a home scanner printer copier will damage the photos ,because of the intense light used by the scanner, as some of them are quite faded already. What is the best way to store these photos in there original condition and what is the best way to copy them and if possible enhance the copies to as near their original quality as possible.

  • how to grow plants from bulbs?

I have planted several different bulbs in pots this year leaving the bulbs in the pot until the foliage has withered and died. Now when I have replanted the pots with new plants for the late summer what do I do with the bulbs I have removed from the pots. Some have several smaller bulbs attached and some have a whole cluster. Do I simply replant these bulbs when the time comes and can I separate the bulbs and grow 2,3 or 4 plants from the original single bulb .Or is it better to buy new bulbs and compost last years bulbs.I am really really new to this and even the most basic gardening books do not explain things clearly. My usual gardening involves plants that grow flower and can be cut down to ground level once the leaves fall off and regrow the following year and trees that just need the occasional wayward branch removing.I suffered a serious accident a couple of years ago which left me with some brain damage so please be as simple and exact with instructions Thanks in advance for your answers

  • Old railway sleepers in the garden?

I have acquired two old used railway sleepers for my garden .As they are genuine sleepers they are covered in creosote and pitch (I think) does anybody know of a way to clean the pitch and creosote from the wood so they can be used as seating.I want to keep as much of the original timber as possible to keep the rough weathered look.I am not looking to remove it completely but to achieve a finish that does not come off the timber and stain skin and clothes.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • identification of electronic components?

I have a small in car heater that had a cheap cigarette lighter plug attached to it due to bad connections inside said plug the unit overheated .My question is on taking the unit apart to replace it there are two small electronic components one is a brown glass like elongated blob with three evenly spaced red rings around it (I think it is a resistor or similar) the other is clear light green plastic with what looks like a fuse arrangement inside it is 5 mm high and 2.5 mm across .These were attached across the negative and positive terminals of the plug.My question is what are they and in what order should they be connected + to - or - to + or can I discard them completely .I am going to connect the heater directly to the battery via a fused connector do I need these extra components or can they be discarded. Also does anybody know where I can purchase the said items once I have identified them. Thanks in advance for any help.
