It is okay to eat what you want to eat as long as you do so with a clean heart. I say this and get the thumbs down all the time...but I just hate when people try to define themselves with a word like that. Just like anything else in life, if you want to get on a certain path most of the time and then stray from it once in a while...you are allowed.

The reason others get annoyed is when you wear their label without doing the things they do to "deserve" to wear it. So...what I decided a while back is just not to go by labels. Especially about my food. You don't have to BE anything but a person. And when you are just a person, you can make responsible decisions that you are happy with, without someone flagging you down and calling you a hypocrite...because you know what you are doing, and why and that is all that matters...and since you didn't talk/brag/preach about your label...then no one else cares what you eat.

You are still doing more than enough. And you are still doing more than most. It's okay not to do everything exactly the way someone else says to. But when you do things...do it with a clean heart. Do it having thought about it and knowing you are okay with your choice.

You can live frugally most of the time, and occasionally buy a five dollar magazine.

You can conserve water most of the time, and occasionally have a full bubble bath.

You can eat vegan most of the time, and sometimes have a little honey.

There are also some conflicting views about honey in particular. So...like anything else, you can decide what you think, and live by that.

Here is kind of a compelling piece about honey and the whole movement:

a vegan is someone who doesn't eat or wear anything made from animal bodies- so if you wear leather, wool or silk, or eat honey, you're not vegan. The categories you've posted make no sense. A vegan who eats milk isn't a lacto vegetarian. All thos demi-labels are really for anally obsessed people who just HAVE to label themselves to the Nth degree. A vegetarian is a vegetarian, whether they eat eggs, milk, honey, cream, cakes, milk and eggs or not eggs and milk at all. There's no word for a vegan who eats honey, as a vegan who eats honey is not a vegan. They'd be a vegetarian I guess.

If you are vegan, then you should not be eating honey. Honey is a side-product of an animal, and this is against the beliefs of a vegan.

Honey is a contentious subject for vegans. It's easy to avoid and there are plenty of vegan equivalents (a vegan favourite being agave nectar). But it is, of course, your decision. Many people call themselves vegan but still eat honey.

My advice would be to research the subject, decide whether you want to allow honey into your diet.

  • there is no law against it, i mean, im a vegan/vegetarian. I try to be vegan as much as possible, but i dont completely cut out milk or honey and stuff. I buy this oats and honey bread which is delish! But i mean, if you are full on, i guess its not. But its up to you and how it would make you feel

Some vegans don't feel very strongly about honey, others do. It's more of a personal choice, I think. I always try to avoid it because I have heard that a lot of times it's not harvested in the most ethical way.

Try agave nectar. It's also a little controversial (is it healthy or just another version of high fructose corn syrup?) but it's really good and you only need a little bit to get the job done :)

You can eat what you like but vegans do not eat honey because it comes from an animal and involves cruelty.

While honey is not part of a vegan diet, if you really need it have it.

There are some very good alternatives like agave nectar which are vegan frienly.

The utmost reason for veganism is philosophy.

When human brain evolved in the diet intellect, they defined further from a stricter vegetarianism to veganism, and then fruitarianism.

Diet science evolved from ancient religious philosophy... Vedas, 6million years ago.

The Objective of veganism for Peace & Liberation :

    1. Total liberation of animals species.

    2. No sex-ism - No race-ism - No species-ism - No domination by Power

No...that goes against the point of being a VEGAN don't you think? If you need a label, just be a vegetarian and continue your vegan inspired diet, if you feel to eat honey. Otherwise, just ignore it. It'll go away eventually, most certainly.
