Do quiz sites infect your computer with malware?

My daughter has been asking to take quizzes and survey type things from various sites that her friends send her. I'm real wary and have told her not to do that, but her friends are having such fun with these silly things I hate to yell my daughter no. Is there a list somewhere or a way to be sure that these sites aren't harboring malicious software?

Do you know about these in particular?

Quizilla

teennick.com

gurl.com

quizstop.com

gagirl.com

Thank you!

Update:

as stated before, she has not used these sites yet. I would like to grant her limited permission depending on if I can find info on whether or not the sites sneak in malware, viruses, etc. Please answer if you have or find real facts on the subject. She has been trained since she was very young not to give out personal info. so that is not an issue. She also calls me or my husband over if anything pops up.

    1. Quizilla was started in 2002 as a user generated online quiz website. It originally started as a website for quizzes, such as personality quizzes. According to Wikipedia, it's harmless fun.

    2. Teenick is part of Nickelodeon featured shows. Girls Games. Quizzes. Degrassi. Saved By The Bell. That 70s Show. Harmless fun for a girl.

    3. Skip the sudoku and check out gURL's online games. Make your own romance, dress your favorite celebrities, find a steamy movie, pick out a perfume and more...Play a game!

    4. A huge collection of free personality tests and fun online quizzes on love, relationships and the self. A useful sliding format makes each quiz doubly fast and easy ...

    5. Georgia Girl's Love and Romance Sampler: Animation, cyberCards, pictures, poets, quotes of love, love Songs, web games, Southern sayings, Southern humor, color quiz, etc.

Mom, at least you're asking questions BEFORE trouble happens. Depending on your daughter's age and maturity for her age, I'd keep MY young daughter away from #5. She's not ready for that, yet. My 7-year old great granddaughter has been into Teennick, and found games suitable for her age group, so letting your child venture, with supervision, is a good way of teaching them. I am in the same room with the 7-year old, so I KNOW what she's doing and she's doing it with me sitting behind her. Good move, Mom!

I'm not sure if I answered your actual question. ALL websites leave some traces on your computer. They are called cookies and are harmless. However, some spyware and malware can creep in, so arm your self with some good removal tools and use them often. SuperAntiSpyware is the best I've found and I've been doing this for 20 years. It's free and easy to use. Another is CCleaner, also free.

Sounds like what happened to me. But mine came from opening e-mail. The only free option is to grab your "System restore" cd and be prepared to do a reload. Then get a Good Spyware program. As I understand it, these malware programs come from porn sites when you don't buy their products. I suggest ( if thats where it came from) that you don't visit them. Just an idea. IF you have it done, check cumputer shop labor prices. The one we used was $50 an hour

Expect a HEFTY phone bill if she provided them with a phone number! Once she has done this, every site that asked for the number WILL add a 10 dollar a month fee to your bill
