A good way to get more readers is to be a really good reader/commenter. If you follow many blogs and comment frequently on them, in addition to doing work to keep your own blog interesting- write posts that are interesting, perhaps even make posts interactive (ask questions, respond to comments), you'll probably become more widely read. It's also important to have an attractive blog. It's a lot of work, though. I was doing pretty well at it for a bit, but didn't do it well enough and didn't get far. You have to keep at it.

If that fails, you could always try doing giveaways. But they might not get very many worthwhile connections made (friendships, feedback, good comments).

You could also find a network of bloggers. For example, there's one called 20 Something Bloggers.

There are just so many ways so start with one, perfect it and go from there (of course make sure you're writing good content on your blog). Commenting on other blogs, writing articles, networking on social networking sites/forums, SEO (see basics below)
