Is hypocrisy the great political crime of the day?

Posters of all political persuasions accuse one another of hypocrisy, as if there can be no worse crime. Yet, to quote my Christians friends, they are saved, not perfect.

So how does accusing somebody of hypocrisy forward one's political beliefs or argue for the merit of those beliefs? If I were to accuse of Larry Craig for being a hypocrite about gay rights, would that mean that his perspective is therefore wrong and mine right? Conversely, if I were to accuse Nancy Pelosi of the same strong arm tactics she complained of when Republicans ruled the Congressional roost, would that mean that everything I advocate is correct?

Serious answers only please.

Cheers.

This is my opinion and mine only. For me the greatest crime is blindness. Everyone suffers it though, myself included at times. I have family who are fanatical about Christianity and Republicans as if either can do no wrong and the two combined are the key to life. I have Atheist Democratic friends who would not use such "superstitious" words to describe their beliefs but are nonetheless fanatical about them.

The problem, as I see it, is that it has become more important for Americans and maybe for all people of the world for their "team" to win than for what is actually best for people, in general. The running of our countries has been reduced to a football game where we cheer on our team to "go for the goal" without really caring what our "team" intends to do with our country as long as the other team doesn't win.

That is how I see it and its why I have come to abhore political parties just as George Washington did (I'm not anywhere near as great a man as he was but I share that belief in the evil of political parties and their ability to tear a country apart).

Hypocrisy, when it is a mistake, can be a humbling and useful thing. Its when its covered up or just done willy nilly, basically just telling anyone what they want to hear, that it becomes a real crime.

That's my two Abrahams at least.

I wish hypocrisy were the great political crime of today! The true crime is the crimes the politicians admit to because they know they won't be charged with anything. There has been a great ethical breach in this company for years, and it will continue until someone says enough. The last politician actually sent to prison for a crime he committed bragged that he could still be re-elected from prison, and he WAS!

The only crime in political hypocrisy is for we, the people to argue who is more hypocritical instead of realizing it's the politicians who are--and get to the voting booth swiftly after doing some REAL research.
