There are several to pick from. No one program is perfect because because the list of what they consider to be "malware" varies from company to company. Also their detection methods often are different. So it is recommended that you download TWO different ones, and each time you scan (something you should do a couple times a week) you should alternate which program you use. This will increase the odds that one program will catch something that the other does not.

Malwarebyte is one of the best and most aggressive spyware scanners. It has a free version that works well and can be upgraded to a paid version that suns in the background (rather than you having to remember to run it.)

Spybot Seek & Destroy is another good one. It includes a background scanner that kicks in when you do certain things like download a file or open e-mail. It does not run 24x7, but does start when you are doing high risk things.

Ad-Aware is one of the oldest and most trusted scanners around. However the free version does not do root kit spywares. But it is exceptional for everything else. (Again, this is why you alternate two scanners as no one is perfect.)

You can get them all free from CNET's safe software site http://download.com/

(Note: the first post recommended AVG (and it is later list Avast). Both are excellent programs but they are VIRUS scanners, not MALWARE scanners. You need to have BOTH a virus scanner and a malware scanner on your PC.)

You spelled malware correctly. But I think meant to say, free "anti" malware programs. Any who, there are several options. Malwarebytes comes highly recommended, by many.

Why would you want things that will harm your computer? Most, if not all malware programs are free.

    You spelled it correctly.

Personally I like AVG Free - it's light (meaning it doesn't slow your computer down), it updates and scans daily, and it has never failed me.

There is also MalWareBytes, Avast, Spybot Search and Destroy, Microsoft Security Essentials, and tons more.

  • try malwarebytes its free and real good ...
