Lately Larry King had resembled a robot version of himself. So I'm not so sure he *is* alive.

But yes, he is clearly coasting on his reputation. His initial questions are pretty thoughtful, but his follow-up questions are not. That makes me think he's primarily relying on what his staffers prepared for him. Also, he often gets agitated when the conversation strays. This indicates he doesn't like not controlling what is said.

It goes without saying he's got a hard job. To cover current events you need to be rather knowledgeable in pipeline engineering, ocean currents, maritime law, commando raids, the Middle East, and big screw-ups in baseball. And that's just some of what you needed to know for this past week.

That said, CNN needs someone quicker on the up-take than King. They generally get good guests, who have to slow-walk their answers because King can't keep up. Time for him to retire and enjoy his last days with whomever Mrs. King is now.

For years, it has appeared he is clueless, doesn't do research nor read the books of the people he interviews. Seems like someone else runs/writes the show and he just shows up to read a list of Q.

Don't forget Barbara Walters, she has to be right up there with the worst.

Hey, he didn't get his job because he had strong interviewing skills. CNN just thought that gigantic microphone next to him looked really cool on TV.
