Well, she might have forgotten the Shephardi-and middle Eastern Jews ? What would they do in Poland? Heck they are already in a power down position in Israel but at least they wouldn't have to learn a new language. 45% of the population of Israel is Arab Israeli. Hello? The problem is the political leadership in Israel and who has the economic/social power there and the uses they are putting it to. Being bellicose and taking on their neighbors at the drop of a border incident because they are being amply supplied with US weapons, is not really very healthy for anyone in the long run. After all how many times can you trash Lebanon strewing its landscape with 3,000,000 obsolete US made cluster bombs? Besides, in the long reach of history, do we remember more Athens or Sparta? which

I am in that bizarre position where I have to agree with Michelle Malkin: Helen Thomas should go back to Mordor. The woman is a proto-Nazi.

And apologies are cheap when you have advocated ethnic cleansing. It's hard to believe that Hizbollah Helen was sincere---especially given her past history of making absurd and blatantly incorrect statements regarding Israel & the Jews. Even in that statement--she is just exposing her ignorance--assuming that it would be fine to ethnically cleanse the Jews (and several answerers here seem to feel that it is...); she needs to account for the fact that the majority of Israeli Jews are refugees from Arab countries.

    Peace

  • In a way she is right. Most of the jews who emigrated to Israel were European, either German or Russian and really had no connection at all with the jews already in the region known as Palestine. Today's modern Israel, of course, has absolutely nothing to do with historic, or Biblical Israel; the two are distinctly separate and unrelated. So it is all the newcomers from Europe, particularly the Askenazi jews, who are particularly notorious.

What she is really saying is all those who stormed into the region and made a mess of everything should pick up and go back to where they came from, and in this she is essentially right, although no one will want to admit it.

Helen Thomas is old enough now not to give a damn what the whiners think. As it always is in instances like this, the obligatory apology after the fact is just whitewash to calm the screamers. She really did mean what she said on the first go-round.

She should read "The Case for Israel" by Dershowitz... and learn how factually wrong she is.

Never mind what you think of politics, fact is over 75% of Arabs in the area moved there AFTER the Jews started developing a backwater, barely populated, barren part of the Ottoman empire.

The Jew were called Palestinians. They were invited by the Ottomans. The Arabs came for the jobs from Egypt, Syria, East Bank (Jordan) & so on.

This was all before Saudia Arabia was formed by war to take over their religious sites (from other Arabs apparently) to make them more religious. It as all the countries in the area were forming. Jews as a continuous minority in the Middle East from long, long before the Muslims wanted a sliver for self rule too.

Jews have been told to get out for a long time. What's so laughable is the same people who now say Jews shouldn't be in the Middle East, are decendant from the same people who said "Jews should go home to Israel & get out of Europe." Whatever, we didn't like the way they talked to us in the mid-1900s, & we aren't beholden to them now either. Difference is now we have Israel, weapons, and most importantly we've shown the world that Jews have a right to defend themselves.

Helen Thomas issued the following statement today: “I deeply regret my comments I made last week regarding the Israelis and the Palestinians. They do not reflect my heart-felt belief that peace will come to the Middle East only when all parties recognize the need for mutual respect and tolerance. May that day come soon.”

And yes, when you are in your 90s, I will cut you slack.

I thought she was Jewish. Honestly, I thought she was Jewish.

Ok, but what about the Jews that lived in the Jewish section of Jerusalem.

This woman is full of hate and has a history of saying things that are disgusting.

She is a snotty old bag who has not been relevant in my lifetime- and I am 52 years old.

Truly an embarrassment to our country.

She's right...she should have gone further and told them to get out of the US also. Maybe then, we can gain some respect out of the other middle east countries that hate us for loving the israelis...
