Who's one player on your favorite team that has just blown you away this season with how good they've been?

Last fall Clay Buchholz showed a lot of improvement, pitching really well and going on a great run and I was looking forward to seeing what he'd do this season; he's just blown me away with his dominance. This guy just keeps getting better and better, it's amazing! He just threw a complete-game shutout and his ERA is 2.39 and he's tied for the league lead w/ 8 wins. I would have never, EVER guessed going into the season that he would be the ace of the staff but right now that's definitely what he is.

Who's a player on your team that's been terrific so far and you didn't necessarily expect that from them? (Not that you thought they'd be terrible, but they have gone above and beyond)

BQ: Anyone who you expected more from, but has disappointed you quite a bit? Josh Beckett for me. I'd say this is a lost season for him. =(

Troy Glaus has been refreshingly surprising for me as a Braves fan. I was skeptical of them signing him this season, as I figured he was getting too old, and wasn't sure how much he would contribute to the team. He's been on fire lately, and has provided the majority of their offense, blasting HR's left and right. Rookie Jason Heyward is a welcome surprise too. ROY 2010!!

As far as disappointing on the team, there are 3 players. Melky Cabrera, Nate McClouth, and Yunel Escobar. Cabrera played so much better with the Yanks, and he's not up to his potential. McClouth came over from the Pirates a few yrs ago, and he's not the same caliber player for the Braves that he was with the Pirates. Escobar is a better hitter than he's shown so far. I think he's just beginning to wake up a bit, so we'll see. All 3 are near the Mendoza line, and I'd expect much more from them.

@insane_blackhawks_fan: great answer! Kay, I think you are well aware by now that the Red Wings are my most disliked team. That is because the Red Wings have given the Blackhawks a hard time for a long time. Red Wings fans used to occupy most of the United Center when the Red Wings came into town. Fortunately for the Blackhawks, the games started selling out. The rivalry between both NHL teams seems to be as strong as the rivalries in other leagues where a Chicago team and a Detroit team are in the same division. A close second is Vancouver because of the way they play and act. I cannot stand the hair pulling, the finger biting, the cheap shots, the off-ice trash talking, and the controversy that has surrounded the franchise ever since the Bertuzzi incident. I cannot begin to describe how excited I was when Boston won game 7 and the Stanley Cup. If the Canucks showed an abundance of class both on and off the ice, I would feel a lot better about them.

Robinson Cano has been so great for us lately. I always knew he had a lot of talent but he has done so much more than anyone expected of him. And at the begining of the season I thought he might just be having a really good couple of games, and would cool down soon enough. But he hasn't yet and I think this will continue to be a great year for him.

BQ: Javier Vazquez.. I mean it seems he's got himself figured out now, but not too long ago I hated him on the mound. Basically whenever he was on the mound we were likely to lose. He's been doing better lately so hopefully he can keep that up.

Justin Morneau. Obviously, I expect him to do well, but I thought he'd get off to a slower start since he missed the end of last season. He's on fire right now. Another one is Delmon Young. He's really improved in the field and at the plate.

BQ: Jason Kubel has been kind of disappointing so far. Hopefully he will start to heat up!

Agree with Buchholz, first of all.

Second, I'd say I expect a lot from Justin Moneau, but he's hitting around .370 when he usually hits around .300. I'd take that anyday.

BQ: Jesse Crain. Very high ERA and an unreliable setup man as of right now.

I could easily say Robinson Cano who's hitting .366 and leads the team in 3 majors stats but I have to go with Francisco Cervelli going on your "blown you away" statement.

Cervelli has stepped up big time in the absence of Posada. He has 24 rbi's in 35 games batting .294.

He's also been clutch with runners in scoring position batting .467 and batting .615 with runners in scoring position with two outs. He has exceeded expectations by far!

BQ: Nick Johnson! What a wasted move. On the 60 day DL with a bad wrist. He could'nt hit with a good one. Let him go and cut your loses.

Austin Jackson. Such a great defensive player and awesome in the box after what amounted to trading our best player (Granderson) away in what brought Jackson here. After a couple nights ago though, this might need to be Galaragga. One of the best and most consistent in baseball this season.

BQ: Laird. Strong defense but really disappointed his bat has not come around at all.

  • Definitely Robinson Cano.

I'll say 2B Orlando Hudson or CL Jon Rauch. It's hard to fill Joe Nathan's role, but Jon Rauch has been superb, and the Twins finally found a decent hitting second baseman and #2 spot in the order. He is hitting over .300 this season which is a lot better than I expected.

BQ: OF Jason Kubel has had a slow start, but he'll come around. He's had some big hits, including a go ahead 3 run homer off of Mariano Rivera.

I would have normally said Andrew McCutchen, but I'll go with someone who they just called up, Neil Walker. Last year, he did terrible when he was called up in September, but in the week he has been called up, he has blown me away. He is batting .313 after batting .194 last year, and he hit a game winning homerun against the Cubs the other night. Hopefully he keeps it up.

BQ: Ross Ohlendorf. I thought he'd be our ace, but is currently 0-3.
