What causes broken/chipped spider gears in a differential?

I have a 91 Integra with a five speed. I bought the Trans a month ago. I put the specified oil type 10 30 and I do admit I did three burnouts each less them 3 seconds…haha The reason I think it’s the gears is because it clunks and when you move a wheel the other wheel does not spin after awhile(not LSD) . I drained the trans to find out chips of a gear.

Update:

It’s a Japanese engine and Trans shot they repair and sell engines and trans with a six month warranty. They “inspect” them before selling them.

First, I'm not sure what you meant, but it sounds like you put 10w30 engine oil in the transmission, which is a good start to why it fried. The main reasons for a transmission, specifically the spider gears, to fail, is heat and fatigue. Basically, they can wear out over time and if the transmission fluid gets too low, and the differential heats up it can cause it to break. Also, burnouts don't put a lot of stress on them...unless they suddenly hook at some point, which puts a ton of stress on the gears.

even if you used 10-30 engine oil that should not of caused damage as honda recomends to use 10-30 engine oil as a temporary lubricant if honda Mtf (manual transmission fluid) is not available

Sounds like you bought a used trans that some one beat the h*ll out of.Probably too many burn outs-lol.Suggest you take it back if you can and find a good one.
