What's the point of giving your PS3 a static IP address?
I just did, because someone suggested to do it to get less online interferance, but I don't understand why that would help. I don't even know what a static IP is lol.

If you don't know what a Static IP address is, how do you know you did it?
You have two options when it comes to IP address: Dynamic IP address or Static IP address.
A Dynamic IP address means a random IP address is given to each device each time it connects to the Internet. This is the most common, and the best type of IP address to have.
If for some reason, you have two devices trying to use the same IP address (they will kick each other off of the Internet when the other one connects), or the device will not generate a random IP address when it connects, then you have to assign an IP address (Static IP address) to the device that the device will use each time it connects to the Internet, no matter what.
When it comes to "online interference", it is better to have a Dynamic IP address, not a Static IP address. If the Static IP address has problems, then it will always have problems. If a Dynamic IP address has problems, then it will generate a new IP address to fix the problem.
Sometimes a Static IP address is required no matter what (for some reason a Dynamic IP address just will not connect). In these cases, there is not much you can do. If you don't have to do a Static IP address, then it is recommended that you don't (this is game related).
