What is the best type of ballroom dance for "A Whole New World" from the Aladdin soundtrack?

My fiance and I would like to learn to ballroom dance for our first dance at our wedding reception. We would like to dance to the Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle version of "A Whole New World." Yes, it's cheesy, we know. We were curious as to what type of ballroom dance would be best suited for this song. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

It would be a perfect slow foxtrot for an advanced dancer. If you plan on investing heavily in lessons and choreography, that's still the best choice. If you haven't danced before, and your time will be limited to a dozen hours or so of practice time, I'd suggest rumba as an easier alternative to pull off and look presentable.

And not to rant too heavily, I do wish people who don't know ballroom dances would stop suggesting grossly inappropriate choices.

OH MY GOD... i have to tell you that I was just singing "A Whole New World" and reading your question at the same time...what are the chances of that? Talk about freaky!

The Modern Waltz would be ideal: this style of ballroom dancing comes from the Austria Waltzen styles of ballroom dancing popular in Austria and Germany in the early 1900s. The Boston Waltz became popular in the United States in 1834 and is a slower version of the Viennese Waltz. Today, the Waltz still remains as a slow type of ballroom dancing and the slow beat has allowed the Waltz to have more figures, dips and steps added to it.

Or for a little kick you can try a Rumba:

Rumba style of ballroom dancing is also known as the Latin Waltz. The American Rumba is a variation of a slow-rhythmed Cuban dance called the Son that was brought to the United States in the 1920s. The Rumba is danced on the spot, rather than all over the dance floor, with hip and other body movements in a slow, quick, quick beat.

I agree that it's a great foxtrot, although I do not see it working well with rumba. I liked the idea of night club two step, you could make it interesting by adding different spins and dips and that would be easier than learning a foxtrot routine. But if you are investing in a private instructor, go for the foxtrot and make it elegant :) Congrats on the wedding!

That would be a foxtrot..a slow foxtrot.

It would not be a tango..whoever said that obviously knows nothing about ballroom dance. Dear God...please don't do a tango to A Whole New World. lol

I would do a Night Club Two Step. You could also do a slow foxtrot or rumba (bolero or international), but I think the style of night club would go best.

    Good Luck:)

Once a week. at least. My boss is beginning to wonder why the oriental rug is missing from the lobby every Thursday Night.

I'm no expert, but I think that I tango would be perfect, or maybe a foxtrot :) Good luck and congratulations to you both!
