When will the Pittsburgh Pirates make the playoffs?

This team is just bad. I live in Pittsburgh and I like the Pirates but this will be the 18th straight losing season. That is just uncalled for. Especially since they are in the top 15 for most profitable teams. Why don't they actually take some money and spend it on some good players for a change. And don't even mention 2008 when they spent just about 50 million, because that year they gave Matt Morris 10 million dollars. That was a huge waste of money. Why didn't they go out and get Ben Sheets or trade for Roy Oswalt(who wants to be traded)? Their offense is very good because they are actually bringing up some of their minor leaguers. But notice they won't bring up any minor league starting pitchers.

If the Pirates actually spent some money on actual good starting pitching not only would they have a great chance to make the playoffs they would actually sell more seats. Right now they only average about 10 to 15 million tickets sold during weekday games. That quite sad.

Update:

WWE owns TNA - If that is the case then shouldn't the MLB take over ownership and bring people in to rebuild the team with good players? Remember Pittsburgh has always been a big baseball market.

Update 2:

andrew - This organization(if you can even call it that anymore) has had 17 seasons to rebuild and they have done nothing. They have not got close in any of those seasons. Since the Pirates started rebuilding after the 1992 season the Florida Marlins have built a world series team, then dismantled it then rebuilt another world series team. They rebuilt 2 different times and won 2 world series while the Pirates have rebuilt many many many times since 1993 and have nothing to show for it.

I live near Pittsburgh too i am a huge Pirate fan but if they want to be good anytime soon and make the playoffs they need new management that is their first problem they have good players they just trade them away to other teams i don't get why they do this its like they want to lose games. their second problem is they need to spend money they have it they just don't spend it and when they do its on bad players like The pitcher Eveland they just picked up why would they do this when Ben sheets was on the market or Oswalt or they could have moved up Brad Lincoln from the minors. Neil walker has been doing good and they just brought him up I look for the Pirates to get rid of McCutchen soon because he is one of the Best players in the National league And i hope they dont because he is my favorite player and i just got his jersey. LETS GO PIRATES!!!!!!!!!

They could possibly make a run in 2013. This year is another classic season in the 'Burgh. 2011 will continue the streak of bad baseball as some of the young talent ( Lincoln,Alvarez,Tabata for example ) learn at the Major League level. 2012 you will see an improved team, but one that is not quite ready to contend, as more of the young talent ( which is now at the AA level, such as pitcher Rudy Owens ) arrives in the 'Burgh. The 2012 team could push the .500 mark. By 2013, the Bucs could be ready, but a good portion of the young talent has to pan out. And there is no guarantee with prospects.

Bad teams like the pirates will stay bad simply because it helps better teams make the wild card if the mlb sees teams they want in the playoffs they make them play a God aueful team like the pirates, the last few months of the seasons and gives that team a boost for the wildcard, I mean every decent player theyve had over the past few years have been superstars, but once they get them they trade them, the Pirates will forever be bad, and will never make it to the playoffs, if I was you i would become a Phllie fans, even there second place to my Atlanta Braves yea go bravess

the pirates will probably have a shot at the playoffs in 10 years considering they planned to rebuild the team by trading for prospects last year.

When pigs fly! Seriously the teams with the biggest salary will always make the playoffs. Pirates are not spending enough. Baseball is all about spending money!!!!!!! THE NATIONALS HAVE THE RICHEST OWNER IN ALL OF BASEBALL AND HE IS A CHEAP ***!!!!!!!!!! :)

whenever they stop trading there good players for prospect(Neil Huntington is gone). LOL it is just funny that they trade good players for prospects claim to be buildin for the feature but then when them players get good they get traded for prospects its never ending.

I don't see them making the playoffs any time soon, probally in 2020, when they have different players.
