Why do we LOSE points when we ask a question?

It seems backwards. Shouldn't we be rewarded for asking a question and thus, keeping the site going? Shouldn't we be EARNING points when we ask a question?

Why is it like this?

I think it's because yahoo wants to encouraging the people offering advice rather than the ones asking for it. It isn't much points you are losing but the system is built to say you give and you may receive.

Actually, if you do things the way the system is set up you won't lose a thing.

You ask and it costs you 5 points.

You choose a Best Answer for what you asked, you get back 3 points.

Now, you're only down 2 points.

You answer something and you earn two points.

    You're out nothing ;p

you'd eventually run out of points, so in order to ask more, you have to answer and help out others.

If you earned points by asking, then there would be (even more) stupid questions by people just trying to earn points.
