Asking HOA for a Hot Tub?

I bought a condo 9 months, ago and recently picked-up my new key for the pool. My question is, how would I go about requesting a hot tub with year-round access for the complex? I thought about petitioning the homeowners ( not all condos are privately owned) and submitting a request at a HOA board meeting. I realize there would be a "special assessment" but how much could that possibly be spread-out to all the owners? Seems to me reg. monthly maintenance can be absorbed into existing monthly fees if not a reasonable minor increase.

Start attending board meetings, and talk with board members.

You can learn from them how to go about this request for an additional amenity.

Having a petition signed by a large number of owners is a good idea.

Getting some cost estimates on construction and maintenance is also a good idea, so you can talk knowledgeably about issue.

You start by voicing the desire at HOA membership meetings. Your enthusiasm for one may not be shared by all members.
