AR-15 223 vs 556 caliber?
My AR-15 can fire both .223 and 556 but I keep hearing it's still not good to fire 556 rounds in it due to the high pressure. Should I stick to just only .223 rounds in my AR? Or should I go ahead and get an M4?

223 and 556 are essentially the same round. However, yes, I would stick with the 223 rounds for an AR15. Spending the money on an M4 as well as the permit needed to have an assault rifle just to shoot the 556 is a waste. You won't notice a difference between the two, and if I recall, 223 is cheaper than 556 ... though its been a while since I've looked.

A .223 in an AR will not have much recoil. My 8 year old nephew doesn't have any problem with the recoil. You can get a Ruger 10/22 if you want a .22 lr. Academy has import ammo for $4.99/20 where I live. One problem with most of the cheaper .22 lr that look like an AR-15 is that they are not true AR-15s and you can't later get a .223 upper and put it on the lower.

Your rifle will likely be marked somewhere for .223 amunition or nato 5.56
If it is chambered for 5.56 then you can use either amunition.
If it is chambered for .223 then you should only use .223 in it.

If it's chambered for .223 rem then shooting 5.56mm will eff up your rifle, check your mfg specs as it might be specd to 5.56mm already tho

i would most def go with the m4, 5.56 rounds work especially well on these guns. pressure and the way the bullet is released from the barrel make for an accurate buy deadly gun.

Does it say 5.56 on your weapon? If so you're fine. If not then yes u will mess it up.
